The Washington Capitals are throwing back to the 1970s with an upcoming visit to George Mason University’s Fairfax campus.

As part of its 50th anniversary season, D.C.’s NHL team will bring a free youth tournament known as the Capitals Street Hockey Extravaganza to EagleBank Arena (4500 Patriot Circle) on Saturday, Nov. 16, briefly reviving what was once the largest street hockey clinic in existence.

A nonprofit organization in downtown Herndon is celebrating 50 years of giving back to the community.

The Closet of the Greater Herndon Area, a faith-based nonprofit organization that distributes affordable home goods, clothing and other items, marked its 50th anniversary this month. The milestone will be formally celebrated at an invite-only event in late October.

A Tysons-based mental health nonprofit recognized two milestones with one celebration earlier this week.

The Women’s Center held a ribbon-cutting and open house event on Tuesday (Sept. 10) to mark 50 years of serving in the D.C. area and formally unveil its new office at Courthouse Center (8230 Old Courthouse Road) in Tysons.

With temperatures at least temporarily feeling almost autumnal, the Vienna Business Association (VBA) is already starting to hype up its upcoming Oktoberfest.

The annual festival and fundraiser for the VBA will celebrate its 15th anniversary from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, bringing food, beer, artisan and business vendors, and live entertainment to the Church Street area in downtown Vienna.

Lego Discovery Center is planning a big birthday bash to celebrate its first anniversary in Springfield.

The 32,000-square-foot play area dedicated to all things Legos will kick off the birthday festivities at 9:45 a.m. tomorrow (Friday) — exactly one year after it launched — by announcing a name for its giraffe outside Springfield Town Center.

Reston Association is marking the 50th anniversary of Reston Camps with a reunion event for former camp staff.

The reunion, which also serves as a fundraiser for the Friends of Reston’s “Send a Kid to Camp” program, will allow former counselors to reconnect, share memories, and reflect on how their experiences with Reston Camps have influenced their careers, according to a press release.

The McLean Community Center (MCC) is inviting local artists to undertake two public art projects to commemorate its 50th anniversary next year.

One of the commissioned pieces is a mural planned for the rear wall of the Old Firehouse Center at 1440 Chain Bridge Road. The second installation is a sculpture targeted for the rear plaza of the community center, located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

ViVa Vienna will celebrate four decades of food, carnival rides and charity when it returns this Memorial Day weekend.

Ahead of the festival’s annual take over of Church Street on May 25-27, the Vienna Town Council issued a proclamation on Monday (May 20) commemorating ViVa Vienna’s 40th anniversary and designating this coming Sunday (May 26) as ViVa Vienna Day.

The Northern Virginia Regional Park Authority (NOVA Parks) is marking the facility’s 50th anniversary with various activities from April to September, starting this Saturday (April 27) with a trail-wide cleanup event from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

It’s been 20 years since an iconic sculpture honoring Reston’s founder Robert E. Simon was unveiled at Lake Anne Plaza.

To celebrate the anniversary of the sculpture’s installation, Reston Museum is hosting an event featuring its creator, artist Zachary Oxman. The event will take place at Reston Community Center Lake Anne (1609-A Washington Plaza North) next Wednesday, March 13 at 7 p.m.
