A Chantilly woman was killed on Saturday (May 24) in an apparent case of domestic violence, police say.

Police officers and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to the 16000 block of Bromall Court in Chantilly at 7:48 p.m. for a possible cardiac arrest stemming from an assault, according to the police scanner.

A Merrifield man who evaded arrest for eight years will spend the next decade in federal prison in connection to drug charges.

Otis Chevalier, 46, was sentenced last Thursday (April 10) to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty last year to both the distribution of and the conspiracy to distribute the drug phencyclidine — otherwise known as PCP, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia.

Eighth-grader Nikita Ramakrishnan bested 86 spellers to win the Fairfax County Spelling Bee March 23.

Ramakrishnan, a student at Rocky Run Middle School in Chantilly, claimed the title after spelling “xanthic,” an adjective of Greek origin meaning “colored with some tint of yellow – used of a flower.”

Fairfax County has cultivated an economic win by landing a role as host of the American Wine Society’s annual conference.

The gathering of winemakers, restaurants and connoisseurs, which typically draws more than 650 attendees, will be held this fall at the Westfields Marriott Washington Dulles Hotel in Chantilly, according to Visit Fairfax, which anticipates that the event will generate at least $1 million in economic impacts.
