Of the four winning teams at the Liberty and Concorde district cross-country championship meets, three finished first by thin margins — and the fourth by a more substantial amount.

In the girls races, the Langley Saxons won the Liberty crown by five points and the Oakton Cougars the Concorde by a comfortable 12. In boys, the McLean Highlanders (Liberty) and Centreville Wildcats (Concorde) each won by seven.

For the third straight year, and with a different top individual finisher each time, the Potomac School Panthers continued atop the throne as conference cross-country champs.

The boys high-school team had scored a meet-best 24 points to win the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference varsity title Oct. 26 on the 5,000-meter Agricultural Farm Park  course in Derwood, Md.

Middle-school cross-country meets were the name of the game across Fairfax County Saturday morning (Oct. 19).

Hundreds of girls and boys runners in grades seven and eight participated in 3,000-meter races in different areas of the county.

Sasha Minsky and Charlie Ortmans are teammates again — this time in college.

The graduates of the Potomac School in McLean, where they were standout high-school cross country and track and field runners, are underclassmen on this fall’s men’s cross country team at Harvard. Ortmans is a sophomore, Minsky a freshman.
