The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department saw a significant increase in activity in 2021 compared to the previous year.

The honor for busiest company of the year went to Engine 430 based out of Merrifield Station 30, the department shared last week.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department is expanding a 1977 station in another measure to modernize and expand its service.

Seven Corners’ one-story Station 28 (2949 Sleepy Hollow Road) has moved into a temporary setup at 6637 South Street. The department moved operations on Feb. 16 with uninterrupted service.

Discarded Ashes Caused Herndon Fire — A house fire in the 12000 block of Sugarland Valley Drive in the Herndon area of Fairfax County was caused by improperly discarded fireplace ashes into a trash receptacle. Fairfax County fire investigators are trying to determine how four charter buses caught fire Friday evening at a lot in Lorton.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Ashley Hildebrandt says the fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. at 8025 Mims Street.

Fairfax County firefighters received several calls when fire erupted in a single-family home in the 4700 block of Autumn Cove Court in Lincolnia around 1 a.m. Saturday morning (Jan. 29).

Arriving firefighters reported fire showing and immediately called for additional resources.

(Updated at 4:30 p.m.) Fairfax County saw its largest-ever increase in coronavirus cases among fire and emergency medical responders this month, mirroring a surge in case rates compared to 2020.

Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department data shows that there are 53 positive cases and 14 in quarantine, all staying at home to curb the spread of COVID-19. That’s the most cases the department has seen at one time, according to county figures as of Sunday (Dec. 26).
