Fairfax County police are charging a man who allegedly pulled out a gun at Springfield Town Center this past weekend, prompting the mall to be evacuated.

Officers responded to the 6600 block of Springfield Mall at 7:04 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 17) after detectives were alerted to a weapons call.

A routine bus trip from New York City to D.C. took a harrowing turn for passengers last night (Monday) when the driver reportedly decided to ditch their intended destination for a journey into the unknown.

As documented in a viral thread on the nascent social media platform Bluesky by user Musicology Duck, a driver on a BestBus route from Penn Station to Union Station and Dupont Circle allegedly sped down a highway and refused to go to Union Station despite pleas from both riders and the bus company’s staff, dropping everyone off at the Vienna Metro station only after the police were called.

Juliana Peres Magalhaes, who was employed by the Banfield family as an au pair, testified following opening arguments yesterday (Tuesday) in Fairfax County Circuit Court with Judge Penney Azcarate presiding. Brendan Banfield is facing seven felony charges — including four counts of aggravated murder — in relation to the killings of 37-year-old Christine Banfield and 39-year-old Joseph Ryan.

Fairfax County police are investigating whether speed may have contributed to a crash that killed a driver on Fairfax County Parkway this weekend.

Jane Clayton, a 48-year-old Alexandria resident, died after she appears to have “lost control” of her 2004 Chevrolet Cavalier while driving on the parkway near Huntsman Blvd in Burke around 7:45 a.m. on Saturday (Jan. 10), according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

A pedestrian seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Annandale this morning (Wednesday) has now died, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Police are still working to identify the driver of a dark-colored sedan that’s believed to have been involved in the crash, which occurred around 7:02 a.m. on Little River Turnpike near Shelley Lane, according to a press release.
