The Langley Saxons avenged one of their regular-season losses with a first-round victory in the region football-tournament playoffs, and will have the opportunity to do the same in the semifinals.

On Nov. 15, third-seeded and host Langley (9-2) downed the sixth-seed Marshall Statesmen (6-5), 42-14, after rallying from an early deficit in the 6D North Region high-school tourney.

The undefeated Madison Warhawks (11-0) displayed why they are the top seed and the four-time defending champion in the region football playoffs with a one-sided home victory in first-round action Friday night (Nov. 15).

Madison defeated the bottom seed Chantilly Chargers, 44-0, in the eight-team 6D North Region tournament in Vienna. The shutout was Madison’s fourth of the high-school season and second in a row.

The “interim” tag has been removed from Dan Wolff’s title as the head football coach of the private-school Potomac School Panthers in McLean.

Wolff was given that label when he took over for the 2024 high-school season. That designation recently was removed after Wolff led the Panthers to a bounce-back 5-4 record this fall.

The Herndon Hornets and Marshall Statesmen are seeded in the lower half of the eight-team region-football playoff bracket — but shouldn’t be taken lightly.

Each high-school team proved formidable during the regular season, heading into the playoffs on a win streak (in Herndon’s case) and well-rested (in Marshall’s).

After being elsewhere for a year, the Rotary Cup is back in possession of the Langley Saxons.

Langley (8-2, 4-2) reclaimed the neighborhood hardware by blanking the host McLean Highlanders, 38-0, on Friday night (Nov. 8) in the final regular-season football game for both Liberty District high school teams.

For the first time in 46 years, the Madison High School Warhawks finished undefeated at 10-0 in regular-season football action.

The Warhawks capped the perfect campaign with a 41-0 blowout victory over the visiting Centreville Wildcats Friday night (Nov. 8). Madison also wrapped up a perfect Concorde District record of 5-0 to clinch the outright league title.

Hayfield Secondary School has lost its final appeal to overturn a two-year postseason ban in football.

The final decision was made by a three-person Virginia High School League subcommittee, which heard from both Hayfield and the league Thursday via Zoom before rendering its decision.

Just one more game stands between the Madison High School varsity football team and an undefeated regular season.

The 9-0 Warhawks visit the Centreville Wildcats on Friday (Nov. 8) in their final game prior to the region playoffs.

An appeals committee for the Virginia High School League is reviewing and will soon make its decision regarding whether Hayfield High School is eligible for the postseason in 2024 and 2025.

The committee met Monday to hear from the Virginia High School League and Hayfield officials.

This season the Division I private-school state football playoffs will not include the Flint Hill Huskies or Potomac School Panthers.

The overall records of the high-school teams were not good enough to earn one of the four berths. Potomac School finished 5-4 and Flint Hill 1-8.
