Some more multi-million-dollar homes are taking shape in Great Falls.

The McLean-based company Artisan Builders announced last Tuesday (July 23) that it’s developing a new residential subdivision off of Georgetown Pike called Falls Farm. The neighborhood along Falls Farm Court will consist of 14 custom-built houses on lots that average two acres in size.

Alcohol and drugs may have played roles in separate vehicle crashes that killed two pedestrians in Fairfax County this past Saturday (July 20), police say.

Yesterday (Sunday), the Fairfax County Police Department identified Giomarie Davila-Ocasio, a 26-year-old Reston resident, as the woman who died after being hit by a driver in the Great Falls area of Route 7 (Leesburg Pike). The department also announced that a teen was arrested in connection with a fatal crash in Lorton.

Emergency medical services and police were dispatched to Leesburg Pike at Downey Drive around 3:44 a.m. for a crash involving a pedestrian with an injury, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.

Following concerns about frequent traffic accidents and continuous speeding, the Virginia Department of Transportation is gathering feedback from residents via a public survey on the safety of Walker Road in Great Falls.

The survey, which will be active through this Friday (July 12), was initiated at the request of State Sen. Jennifer Boysko, Del. Rip Sullivan, and Dranesville District Supervisor Jimmy Bierman. It aims to address safety issues along a 2-mile stretch from Colvin Run Road to Georgetown Pike.

A revised policy for adjusting school boundaries appears to have most of the Fairfax County School Board’s support ahead of a possible vote next month.

While most members agreed that the current policy needs an overhaul to address capacity issues across Fairfax County Public Schools, some expressed reservations at a work session on Tuesday (June 25).

Lake Fairfax Park isn’t the only spot in Fairfax County planning an early Fourth of July party this year.

The Fairfax County Park Authority’s Independence Day celebration in Reston will compete tomorrow (Saturday) with festivities in McLean, Lorton and Mount Vernon, where George Washington’s estate will kick off two days of fireworks tonight (Friday).

As the Fairfax County School Board considers a new boundary adjustment policy, a prominent citizens’ group has raised concerns about its potential impact on local families.

The Great Falls Citizens Association’s (GFCA) executive board took an official stance on the proposed policy changes on June 17, urging Fairfax County Public Schools and elected officials to hit the pause button until they solicit more community input.

(Updated at 11:50 a.m. on 5/13/2024) Fairfax County police are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash that shut down Georgetown Pike in Great Falls for hours early Thursday morning (May 9).

First responders with the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to the intersection of Georgetown Pike and Falls Chase Court for a crash near the Great Falls Church of Christ at 12:21 a.m., according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.

A home-based golf instruction facility is coming soon to a half-acre of land on 1051 Kelso Road in Great Falls.

Next Level Golf — a local golf instruction company — hopes to open a golf instruction facility that “fosters golf development for individuals of all backgrounds and abilities, including veterans, individuals with PTSD, disabilities and juniors/adults interested in the sport,” according to the application, which was filed last week.

Hundreds turned out across Fairfax on Monday to see the partial solar eclipse which reached nearly 90% totality in the D.C. area.

The Fairfax County Park Authority held four separate eclipse viewings at Ellanor C. Lawrence Park, Burke Lake, Historic Huntley and Turner Farm Park.
