Nearly two years after plans for a Herndon location fell through, Ornery Beer Company is officially setting up shop in the neighborhood.

The brewery is already hiring for its second full-service restaurant in hopes that it will open later this month in Woodland Park Crossing, founder and CEO Randy Barnette confirmed to FFXnow.

Herndon residents will have another option for grocery shopping later this fall.

Budget supermarket chain Lidl is planning to open its latest Fairfax County location at 2110 Centreville Road on Oct. 29, a spokesperson confirmed.

A suspect in an early-hours shooting this morning in Fairfax County’s Dranesville neighborhood has been arrested, police said.

The unnamed suspect was taken into custody around 5:50 a.m., less than an hour after a man sustained gunshot wounds in the 12700 block of Fantasia Drive, according to scanner traffic.

Herndon’s tree canopy coverage isn’t bad for a town of its size, but it notably lags behind some of its neighbors, town staff say.

At a work session on Tuesday (Sept. 9), arborist Nick Maletta told the Herndon Town Council that the town currently has 26% canopy coverage, which falls within a standard range but at the lower end of that spectrum.

Despite being landlocked, some neighborhoods in Fairfax County’s Hunter Mill District have apparently become awash in boats.

Supervisor Walter Alcorn plans to propose expanding Reston’s Community Parking District in order to also ban boats and other large vehicles from parking on public streets in the McNair Farms area south of Herndon.
