A group of Northern Virginia residents who bonded through their shared love of live music now hopes to translate that passion into support for a worthy cause — and a memorable goodbye for a local band.

NoVA Live Music Mingle will host its first-ever fundraiser tonight (Thursday) at Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern (697 Spring Street) in Herndon to benefit the music education program StudioRock of Northern Virginia.

Last month, Inova officially opened a new care center in Herndon, bringing together its family, women, and children-specialized clinics under one roof.

The new facility is located at 365 Herndon Parkway, Suite 105, just across Fairfax County Parkway from Reston Hospital.

The bear has inspired a new promotional campaign from the Herndon Parks and Recreation Department, which announced Monday (June 23) that it has “hired” Elden the Bear to serve as its ambassador.

Buffalo Wild Wings is giving away more than 31,000 wings to celebrate the grand opening of its new location in Herndon later this week.

On Thursday (June 19), the first 100 customers in line at the sports bar chain’s newest restaurant at 304 Elden Street will receive six free wings a week for a full year — totaling 312 wings per person over the next 52 weeks.

Fairfax County Public Schools is taking over King Abdullah Academy’s campus in the Floris area south of Herndon.

The Fairfax County School Board voted 9-0 with three abstentions last Thursday (June 12) to approve a $150 million acquisition of approximately 30 acres at 2949, 2950 and 2954 Education Drive, where the Islamic private school will cease operations after July.

The Town of Herndon is expanding its summer programming this year with a new “Town Square Tuesdays” concert series.

The free, outdoor concerts will kick off next Tuesday, June 17 on Herndon’s Town Square patio (730 Station Street) with Mystic Warriors, a band based in the D.C. area that plays Andean music.

Herndon officials had a grave discussion earlier this week about plans to build out the remainder of Chestnut Grove Cemetery (831 Dranesville Road).

With people evidently dying to get in, the cemetery is running out of space for graves, but in response to public feedback, town staff have proposed nixing some of the planned new burial spots.

A black bear was spotted roaming the area around Alabama Drive and Hillwood Court north of Haley M. Smith Park this morning (Monday), the Herndon Police Department confirmed shortly before 9 a.m.

After reevaluating plans to clear more trees throughout the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail corridor in the spring, Dominion Energy is revving up its chainsaw once more.

The utility shared yesterday (Thursday) that its forestry team has “identified several areas” along the 45-mile trail in Fairfax, Arlington and Loudoun counties where tree removals will be necessary to preserve the electrical grid.

A developer hopes to alchemize real estate gold out of a faltering building in Coppermine Commons, an office complex in the McNair area south of Herndon.

An affiliate of the Arlington-based company Felice Development Group that appears to own Coppermine Commons III has proposed replacing the 5-story office building at 13851 Sunrise Valley Drive with up to 98 residential townhouses.
