The American Armed Forces Mutual Aid Association (AAFMAA) is no longer planning to transform its administrative offices in Reston into a new headquarters.

With its office needs declining, the member-owned nonprofit, which provides life insurance, mortgages and other financial services to members of the U.S. military community, has shifted its focus instead to housing, according to a rezoning application submitted to Fairfax County on June 24.

Another office complex in the Dulles Toll Road corridor is being targeted as a candidate for redevelopment as housing.

Apartment rental prices continue to rise across Fairfax County, even as they cool nationally, and nowhere in the county is pricier for renters than Tysons.

With a median rental price of $2,450 for one-bedroom apartments and $2,938 for two bedrooms, Tysons topped Fairfax County in May and was second only to Arlington regionally, according to new data from Apartment List.

A proposal that will bring more housing to Oakton near the Vienna Metro station has a stamp of approval from the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors.

The board voted unanimously on Tuesday (June 10) to approve a development plan that will result in the eventual demolition of two existing 12-story office buildings at 9300 and 9302 Route 29 in the Hunters Branch community.
