Residents of Fairfax County’s manufactured home communities pressed county leaders yesterday (Tuesday) to do more to protect the properties from redevelopment and those who live there from displacement.

“We don’t want to be moved out of the county — we’d like to stay in our homes,” said Denia Moya, a resident of the Harmony Place Mobile Home Park (8018 Richmond Highway) in Hybla Valley.

The cost to rent an apartment is increasing in some parts of Fairfax County, but declining in others.

Four of seven corridors of the county posted year-over-year drops in median rental prices in November, while the other three showed increases, according to new data from Apartment List.

If Tysons continues to evolve from commercial suburb into Fairfax County’s urban core, as planners hope, it will need more than 10,000 new homes by 2040 to accommodate the influx of residents, a recently released study found.

Commissioned by the Tysons Community Alliance (TCA) and published on Dec. 3, the Future Housing Demand in Tysons report from consultant Jon Stover & Associates (JS&A) predicts Virginia’s population growth over the next two decades will remain concentrated in its metropolitan areas, with Tysons helping the northern region lead the way.

A developer that has been angling to build on a sliver of mostly vacant land north of the Innovation Center Metro station for two decades took a step closer to realizing its goal last month.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a comprehensive plan amendment at its Nov. 18 meeting that will allow residential development on three parcels at 2140 Rock Hill Road in Herndon, paving the way for a project proposed by commercial real estate firm Stout & Teague.

In a forecast issued Wednesday (Dec. 3), multiple-listing service Bright MLS predicts the median sales price of homes sold in the D.C. region in 2026 will drop 1% to $616,700, following a projected 3% increase in 2025.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Nov. 18 to approve property owner Flint Hill Propco LLC’s proposal for a 111-unit townhome complex to replace the Three Flint Hill office building at 3201 Jermantown Road.

Fairfax County is one step closer to updating its regulations for manufactured homes for the first time in nearly half a century.

At its meeting last Wednesday (Nov. 19), the Fairfax County Planning Commission recommended that the Board of Supervisors amend the Comprehensive Plan and zoning ordinance guidelines for manufactured homes, which are sometimes called mobile homes or trailers.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors approved a conceptual development plan on Tuesday (Nov. 18) that calls for a mix of housing, office, retail, hotel and park space on a key 4.8-acre parcel near the Spring Hill Metro station in the Tysons West area.

The unanimous vote in support of Piazza at Tysons is the latest step in a redevelopment effort that has been under review for five years.
