If you’re thinking about taking the Capital Beltway near McLean this weekend, you might want to reconsider that plan.

Starting on the night of Friday, Jan. 24, four of the six northbound lanes on I-495 will be shut down for one mile from the Route 7 interchange (Leesburg Pike) in Tysons to Lewinsville Road in McLean to accommodate construction.

A pedestrian was killed this morning (Monday) in a crash on Route 28 in Chantilly that involved a commercial tanker truck.

Police officers, firefighters and medics were dispatched to northbound Route 28 (Sully Road) under Poplar Tree Road around 6:33 a.m. for a crash involving a pedestrian who was reportedly struck by a “large tanker-type vehicle that carries gas,” according to scanner traffic.

Route 29 is getting a couple of lanes narrower in the Legato area to support the ongoing expansion of Fairfax County Parkway.

From 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. today (Wednesday), construction workers will implement single-lane closures to reduce Route 29 from three to two lanes in each direction at the parkway interchange.

A woman was killed in a crash that occurred outside Oakton Shopping Center Saturday morning (Sept. 21).

Choon Kook, 80, from Vienna was hit by the driver of a Ford F-150 while walking at the intersection of Hunter Mill Road and Lynnhaven Place. She was transported to a hospital with injuries considered life-threatening, the Fairfax County Police Department reported in a tweet at 10:32 a.m.

Traffic on the Capital Beltway (I-495) in McLean might be even more stop-and-start than usual for the next few weeks, though the latest lane closures will at least happen outside rush hours.

Starting tonight (Monday), three northbound and southbound lanes of I-495 will close overnight between the George Washington Memorial Parkway and the Dulles Toll Road interchange to accommodate construction work on a new Old Dominion Drive bridge, the Virginia Department of Transportation recently announced.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is advising drivers to avoid the interchange during what it’s calling “Stay-Away Weekend” if they don’t want to get caught up in the congestion that’ll likely be created by the lane reductions and ramp closures.

Virginia State Police are searching for a dump truck that reportedly crashed into an overhead sign on I-95 in Springfield and bolted.

Troopers were dispatched to northbound I-95 at 12:18 p.m. today (Thursday) after getting a report of debris near the 168-mile marker, which is just south of the Franconia-Springfield Parkway interchange, according to the VSP.

A road diet is coming to a portion of Sterling Road in Herndon, providing interim safety improvements while the town scours for funding to support a larger-scale overhaul.

Crews are slated to begin restriping the road between Herndon Parkway and Elden Street tomorrow (Tuesday), necessitating detours and lane closures, the town said in a newsletter sent Friday (May 17). The Herndon Police Department advises avoiding the area “until the road work has been completed.”

The GW Parkway’s northern section is on the brink of a new phase in its rehabilitation process.

Starting tomorrow (Saturday), construction on the George Washington Memorial Parkway in McLean will shift from the southbound lanes to the northbound ones between the Capital Beltway (I-495) and Route 123 (Chain Bridge Road).
