A new restaurant is taking shape in McLean, one that its owners hope will give local residents a reason to dine in town instead of driving down Route 123 into Tysons.

Described on its Instagram page as an “American neighborhood bistro,” Town will join forces with the recently relocated Moby Dick House of Kabob to revitalize a retail center on Old Dominion Drive left dormant by Café Oggi’s closure in early 2022.

The Virginia Department of Transportation is urging drivers to avoid traveling on southbound I-495 in McLean tonight (Thursday) while its crews finish realigning the highway.

Three southbound lanes will close to traffic, starting at 8:30 p.m. with a single left lane and continuing with two other lanes by 9:30 p.m. The closures will extend from Georgetown Pike to the area just south of the American Legion Bridge.

The U.S. Army’s decision to move forward with its annual Ten-Miler last weekend, despite an ongoing federal government shutdown, paid off for one McLean High School graduate.

Michelle Vaccaro was the first woman to complete the 10-mile race on Sunday (Oct. 12), beating thousands of other runners visiting from around the world with a finishing time of 56 minutes and 44 seconds.

The Fairfax County Park Authority is looking for the community’s feedback again on a proposal for developing Salona Park in McLean.

The new concept, which will be presented at a community meeting at 7:30 p.m. tonight (Monday), centers on a half-mile-long walking trail that would loop around the approximately 10-acre site, which currently consists of undeveloped meadows and woods.

Longtime food critic Tom Sietsema wrapped up his 25-year run at the Washington Post last week with the release of his final fall dining guide.

Sietsema’s survey of the “40 Best Restaurants in and Around D.C.” is dominated by the District, which is home to all of the top-five ranked entries. But five Fairfax eateries still made the cut, along with one that will soon set up shop in the area.

The woman who crashed into the main gate at the CIA’s McLean headquarters while driving drunk earlier this year has been found guilty of three charges.

A federal jury on Thursday (Oct. 2) convicted 27-year-old Monia Spadaro of driving under the influence, reckless driving and eluding police in connection with the May 22 incident, according to online court records.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors on Tuesday (Sept. 30) lauded the service of Joseph Heastie on issues related to local seniors.

But the ceremony quickly moved beyond the topic at hand, as Heastie was also celebrated for his service on additional issues ranging from George Mason University, where he was rector of the board of visitors, to community development.

A 34-year-old man faces 10 years in prison after being accused of stealing a bulldozer from a McLean construction site and selling it online.

Dushon Raynard Sheperd, of Michigan, is awaiting extradition to Fairfax County after being arrested in Kentucky earlier this week. He’s been charged with one count of larceny by false pretense.

While McLean awaits the arrival of a permanent downtown arts center, residents will be treated to a temporary showcase of local artists at the Chesterbrook Shopping Center.

The McLean Art Gallery is set to open behind Starbucks at 6224B Old Dominion Drive on Sept. 17, the McLean Art Society announced Monday (Sept. 8).

A new mural is taking shape in McLean.

Jeremy Jarvis, an Ohio-based artist whose works have been displayed around the world, has been commissioned by the McLean Community Center to transform an exterior wall of the Old Firehouse Center (1440 Chain Bridge Road) into a celebration of its 50th anniversary.
