The new Sassanova in McLean’s Chesterbrook Shopping Center is a milestone in more ways than one.

Officially opened today (Thursday), the fashion boutique at 6224G Old Dominion Drive represents the Maryland company’s first expansion into Virginia, and at 2,262 square feet, it’s the largest location yet.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department has rescued a group of hikers who got stuck at Scott’s Run Nature Preserve during the storm that just passed through Northern Virginia.

According to scanner traffic, rescue and swift water rescue units were dispatched to the park off of Georgetown Pike around 6:23 p.m., as a thunderstorm dropped a deluge of rain on northern Fairfax County.

A developer has returned to Fairfax County with a new proposal to add housing on Spring Hill Road in McLean.

The new Spring Hill Reserve subdivision would deliver 14 single-family, detached houses on a nearly 5-acre lot across the street from the Sunrise of McLean assisted living community, according to a rezoning application submitted to the county in late May.

After three years of construction on its I-495 Northern Extension (495 NEXT) project, the Virginia Department of Transportation is preparing to advance work on the actual toll lanes.

To make way for the new lanes, crews will shift traffic for all four southbound, general-purpose lanes on I-495 (also known as the Capital Beltway Outer Loop) to newly built lanes in McLean, starting tomorrow (Friday) around 8 p.m.

More than 2,000 properties in Fairfax County, most of them in McLean, are currently without power, as the D.C. region suffers through a potentially prolonged heat wave.

According to its outage map, Dominion Energy has 2,132 customers in Fairfax County without power, as of 3:25 p.m. The largest outages appear to be centered around downtown McLean, where crews are assessing the damage to the affected electrical infrastructure.

The latest proposal to bring housing to downtown McLean targets a pair of modest office buildings, one of which was built nearly a century ago.

Reston’s Cypress Real Estate Company, under the name Beverly & Elm Development, submitted plans to Fairfax County last Tuesday (June 17) for a seven-story residential building that would replace the McLean Office Center at 1368 Beverly Road.

A person was shot this morning (Thursday) at the CIA’s headquarters in McLean.

Patrol officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Dolley Madison Blvd shortly before 4 a.m. to assist CIA Police with managing traffic after a “non-fatal shooting” on the intelligence agency’s property, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

The arts center planned for downtown McLean has a new name and a potential timeline for starting construction.

The facility will officially be known as the MPA Berlage Arts & Education Center in honor of McLean Project for the Arts (MPA) board member and longtime supporter Bruce L. Berlage, who made a “significant” contribution to help fund the project, MPA announced last week.

A rapidly expanding dry-cleaning brand is bringing its latest location to McLean.

Mulberrys Garment Care, which opened its first D.C. location in the Friendship Heights neighborhood in December 2023, has secured a space at 6647-B Old Dominion Blvd in McLean Square for its next expansion in the D.C. region.
