Pike 7 Plaza in Tysons is officially getting a drive-thru restaurant.

Without discussion, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted yesterday (Tuesday) to unanimously approve property owner Federal Realty’s proposal for a standalone, one-story restaurant with a drive-thru in the shopping center’s southeast corner.

A small McDonald’s in Centreville’s Village Center strip mall is cooking up a big revamp.

The fast food restaurant hopes to move from its small drive-thru-less location at 5633 Stone Road to a bigger space within the shopping center at 5601 Stone Road.

Statewide Tornado Drill Today — As part of its annual Severe Weather Awareness Week, Virginia will hold a statewide tornado drill at 9:45 a.m. today (Tuesday). The signal will be broadcast on NOAA Weather Radio and the Emergency Alert System, but there won’t be an actual tornado warning, which would mean that a twister is imminent or already underway. “Coastal” Tex-Mex Restaurant Planned for Tysons — “Long Shot Hospitality, which operates seafood-centric Salt Line and New Orleans hotspot Dauphine’s, is gearing up for a new project. Chef Kyle Bailey and partners will open an 11,000-square-foot Tex-Mex restaurant at the new Capital One Center in Tysons, Virginia, next year.” [Washingtonian]

Pisco y Nazca Ceviche Gastrobar, a Peruvian restaurant with locations by Miami and in D.C., is looking to expand to Reston.

The Washington Business Journal reported the news last Friday (March 4), saying it’s slated to open at 1875 Explorer Street, where Vapiano was located until it closed suddenly in 2019 after facing allegations of money laundering.

Popeyes is hoping to rekindle a different kind of warmth into a Fairfax site that was destroyed by a fire in 2018.

The fried chicken spot has filed plans with the county to bring a 2,265-square-foot location to Fair Lakes Shopping Center. If approved, the restaurant would occupy space that was home to United Bank.

Man Charged With Assault on Police Officer — “Yesterday, Michael Vaughn, 34, was charged with five felonies and two misdemeanor charges stemming from the officer-involved shooting that occurred on Feb. 15 in 8300 block of Fitt Court in Lorton. FCPS to End Virtual Learning This Year — With vaccines now available for school-age children, Fairfax County Public Schools will discontinue a limited virtual program for students with medical concerns due to the pandemic. At-home instruction will only be for students with significant health risks that prevent them from attending school in-person after this academic year. [FCPS]

Shake Shack, a burger-and-shake restaurant, plans to open in Merrifield’s Mosaic District this spring.

A company representative tells FFXnow that while an opening date has not been determined, the burger joint expects to announce its grand opening in the coming weeks.

More than a year after it closed, it remains unclear exactly what kind of establishment will replace Vienna’s Amphora Restaurant, but the food will likely be served outside as well as indoors.

Developer Sarantis Properties, owner of the now-vacant building at 377 Maple Avenue, is seeking a conditional use permit to allow outdoor dining for a new restaurant called The Maple Room.

The opening of Pupatella, a Neapolitan pizzeria, in 2020 marked the end of an era for McTacoHut, the name Restonians had for a block of fast food outlets on Wiehle Avenue with Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and McDonald’s.

More changes could be on the horizon, as Taco Bell proposes to rebuild its current location at 11257 Roger Bacon Drive with a more modern restaurant with an additional drive-thru lane.

Annandale will get its first Chick-fil-A this year.

A company spokesperson tells FFXnow that the 4,400-square-foot fast food restaurant is expected to open at 7120 Little River Turnpike in the spring.
