Sasha Minsky and Charlie Ortmans are teammates again — this time in college.

The graduates of the Potomac School in McLean, where they were standout high-school cross country and track and field runners, are underclassmen on this fall’s men’s cross country team at Harvard. Ortmans is a sophomore, Minsky a freshman.

If everything goes according to plan, the Potomac School will start building a new middle school next summer, its chief financial officer says.

After wrapping up advance utility work this summer, the private school took another step toward implementing the long-planned renovation on its McLean campus (1301 Potomac School Road) last month, filing an application with Fairfax County to allow temporary classrooms while the building undergoes construction.

The Potomac School Panthers’ three-game winning streak ended Oct. 5 on a road trip to Pennsylvania.

The Panthers (3-2) lost to The Kiski School Cougars (3-3) of Saltsburg, Pa., a bit northwest of Johnstown, 47-13, in the non-conference high-school football game.

For a defensive back in football, the biggest dream, goal and thrill is always to return an interception or fumble for a touchdown, no matter at what level of play.

With a couple of heady and opportunistic maneuvers, Potomac School’s Jake Adamec fulfilled both in the span of about three minutes during the first half of the Panthers’ 48-22 defeat of St. John’s Catholic Prep on Sept. 6 in non-conference action.

After an opening-game loss, the Potomac School Panthers (3-1) have found a winning formula and bounced back strong to win three straight football games.

The private-school team’s latest victory was 20-14 in McLean over the visiting St. Stephen’s & St. Agnes Saints of Alexandria on Sept. 28 in non-conference play.
