The RA Board of Directors voted 7-2 last night (Thursday) to retain the current name of the recreational area at 2201 Springwood Drive after public feedback suggested community members were split on a change.

Work is about to begin on some brand-new recreational facilities at Mount Vernon Woods Park.

The contractor DeBorn Construction is set to begin active construction Monday (June 10) on a first phase of renovations at the neighborhood park. Depending on the weather, this phase is expected to finish early next year, according to the Fairfax County Park Authority.

The Town of Vienna will host an “interactive” community meeting next week to solicit public input on its new parks master plan. The Town of Herndon’s indoor tennis center has closed early for the season, the Herndon Parks and Recreation Department announced yesterday (Tuesday).

The closure was prompted by damage to the tennis enclosure, according to Reid Okoniewski, a spokesperson for the town’s parks and recreation department.

The Herndon Community Center is planning a week-long series of events later this month to celebrate its 45th anniversary.

The center, which has been provided health, wellness, and recreational activities for the community since its inception in 1976, is inviting residents to participate in the festivities, starting Monday, March 25 and concluding on March 28.

The park authority has launched an equity survey, open through Monday, April 1, as part of its ongoing work to improve access to park programs.
