Two Hospitalized in West Springfield Crash — “Yesterday at 4:09 PM, units responded to three-car crash on Old Keene Mill Rd at Hillside Rd. #FCFRD used “jaws of life” to free 2 persons from one car. Virginia Hits 14-Year High in Crash Fatalities — “In 2021, 968 people died in crashes on Virginia roads. That’s up 14.3% from 2020, when there were 847 crash fatalities. And it’s the highest number of annual deaths since 2007, which saw 1,026 fatalities.” [WTOP]

JUST IN: After board election, Reston Association faces ‘unexpected’ vacancy

(Updated at 10:20 a.m.) Reston Association’s Board of Directors still faces a vacancy just after filling three board seats with this year’s election.

The board announced the resignation of Timothy Dowling, who recently completed one year as an at-large board member, at a meeting last night (Wednesday).

School Board to Appoint New Superintendent Tonight — “The Fairfax County School Board will be announcing the final candidate for the next Superintendent of Schools at tomorrow night’s School Board meeting. The Board will also vote on the candidate’s appointment.” [FCPS]

School Board Defends TJ Admissions Policy to Supreme Court — The Fairfax County School Board said in a filing to the U.S. Supreme Court that an appeals court was “entirely within its authority” to let the admissions policy for Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology stay in place while legal proceedings continue. Reston residents push back against proposed redevelopment of Fannie Mae property

Community members concerned about the proposed redevelopment of the Fannie Mae campus in Reston have one overarching message: it’s just too much.

The site at 11710 Sunset Hills Road is already approved for three office buildings — only one of which has been built. But developer Wheelock Street Capital wants to add between 87 and 92 town houses on the central and western portions of the site. The town homes would be divided between four blocks and no additional offices will be built.

Reston Association board plans mid-level upgrades for Shadowood pool

Reston’s Shadowood pool, which will be closed this season, is slated for mid-level upgrades.

Reston Association’s Board of Directors selected a plan to bring the ailing pool out of the shadows.

Reston Association moves one step closer to hiring new CEO

The top leadership position at Reston Association — which has sat cold since September — may soon be filled.

At a meeting Wednesday night (April 6), RA’s Board of Directors unanimously supported a measure to approve reimbursement of travel expenses for finalists being considered for the position.

Hunters Woods ballfield to clear final hurdle before redevelopment

Geological testing will take place at the Hunters Woods Ballfield, as Reston Association gears up to upgrade the athletic facility.

Testing is slated to begin on Thursday (April 7). A small drill rig will be used to complete the work via the cluster’s parking lot.

After technology mishaps, Reston Association explores digital upgrades

In an effort to refine its technological practices after two years of various mishaps, Reston Association’s Information Technology Committee is urging the organization to consider a major digital transformation.

In January 2021, Wipfli, a consulting firm hired by RA, completed an assessment of the organization’s IT practices. The report centered around three mishaps:

Reston Association pushes for VDOT to redesign ‘pork chop’ road island

Reston Association is calling on state and local officials to push forward the redesign of a circuitous traffic island near Lake Anne Plaza.

At a meeting last night (Thursday), RA’s Board of Directors unanimously approved a letter asking the Virginia Department of Transportation, state officials, and county departments to consider fixing what directors dubbed “pork chop island.”
