Some major upgrades could be coming to Dunn Loring Park’s athletic fields.

The Fairfax County Park Authority announced last week that it’s exploring plans to resurface and expand the existing basketball court at 2540 Gallows Road, possibly turning it into a dual-purpose basketball/futsal court.

A Tysons parking lot that has been slated for development for over a decade now could finally see some activity of the recreational variety instead.

The Arlington-based sports company Epic Padel is proposing to build six temporary padel tennis courts on surface parking for the Greensboro Park offices at 8200 Greensboro Drive, according to a rezoning application submitted to Fairfax County last Friday (April 4).

The 2025 Chipotle-USA Hockey Girls Tier II 16-under National Championship will play out at two venues in Northern Virginia this week, from April 2-6.

McLean Little League will kick off the competition for its 70th anniversary season on Saturday, April 5 with the traditional 9 a.m. parade from McLean High School to the league’s three-field complex on Westmoreland Street.

“We are expecting an exciting day of events, starting with the parade,” league official Autumn Price told FFXnow. “It will be a fun morning and day.”

It took a determined fourth-quarter rally in a title game for the Flint Hill Huskies to complete a perfect dual-championship girls’ basketball season against conference opponents.

By defeating the No. 2 seed Episcopal Maroon, 52-48, in the final of the Independent School League A Division high-school tournament on Sunday (Feb. 23), Flint Hill capped an undefeated 14-0 season against conference opponents.

Counting swimmers, a diver and a relay team, there were four champions from local schools at the recent private school state meet in Stafford.

In swimming, juniors Kate Douglas from Potomac School and Elizabeth Bryan from Oakcrest School each won two races in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association girls’ competition, held at the Jeff Rouse Swim and Sport Center last Saturday (Feb. 15).

The new chair of the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics anticipates an expansive, inclusive, record-setting 2025 for the organization.

“We certainly have the opportunity to expose more local seniors to the challenges and pleasures of competing in the Northern Virginia Senior Olympics program,” Rod Hupp told FFXnow.

The Chantilly Chargers narrowly won the team title and had the individual all-around winner at the girls 6D North Region gymnastics championship this week.

The Chargers won their first team regional crown since 2011 with a 141.450 score during the Monday (Feb. 10) meet at Washington-Liberty High School in Arlington.

Fairfax County Public Schools is facing a legal and financial dilemma after the Virginia High School League’s (VHSL) executive committee voted to ban transgender student athletes from competing in girls’ sports.

The league, which governs public school sports and other competitions across Virginia, announced the policy change on Monday (Feb. 10) after President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to withhold funding from educational and athletic institutions that let transgender girls and women to compete in female sports.
