It’s not getting its name on an NFL stadium like a Herndon-based competitor, but Navy Federal Credit Union will still make its presence felt in the community this September.

On top of organizing an annual charity 5K, the military-serving financial institution is looking to improve a wetlands area on its headquarters campus in Vienna. The project will be presented to the town’s Board of Architectural Review at an 8 a.m. work session tomorrow (Wednesday).

Time is running out for Vienna residents to grab a giant cookie from MidnighTreats without having to leave town or pay a shipping fee.

The bakery at 167 Glyndon Street SE will close for good after this Saturday (Sept. 7), less than two years after opening in owner and founder Johnny Nguyen’s hometown. MidnighTreats announced the closure last Friday (Aug. 30) in an email to members of its rewards program.

Donutchew closed permanently last week after just over two years at 107 Maple Avenue West, serving its final customers on Thursday, Aug. 22. Though some customers got wind of the closure earlier, it wasn’t announced on social media until that evening.

A Vienna man who came under FBI scrutiny for allegedly suggesting a militia make explosives could serve prison time for having a deadly toxin.

Russell Richardson Vane IV, 42, pleaded guilty in federal court yesterday (Wednesday) to possessing ricin — a poison derived from castor beans that can be fatal to people exposed to it — without a registration, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced.

With temperatures at least temporarily feeling almost autumnal, the Vienna Business Association (VBA) is already starting to hype up its upcoming Oktoberfest.

The annual festival and fundraiser for the VBA will celebrate its 15th anniversary from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 5, bringing food, beer, artisan and business vendors, and live entertainment to the Church Street area in downtown Vienna.

A family-owned ice cream shop is now churning the frozen dessert daily on the ground floor of Tycon Courthouse, the office building better known to locals as the “Toilet Bowl” building.

Terra Bechara, who lives in nearby Vienna with her husband and five kids, opened Terra’s Ice Cream, Coffee and Sweets at 2070 Chain Bridge Rd, Suite 180, in Tysons on Thursday, Aug. 8, overcoming months of permitting and construction hurdles.

A proposal to replace a single-family home behind the Village Green Shopping Center with townhouses encountered skepticism when the developer brought it to the Town of Vienna Planning Commission last month.

Sekas Homes presented two possible layouts for a 10-unit townhouse concept at 128 Nutley Street NW on behalf of the owners of the existing, 114-year-old house, who requested assistance with rezoning and redeveloping the property, the homebuilder’s vice president, Connor Sekas, told planning commission at a July 10 work session.

Prepare for more hot, humid weather tomorrow (Friday) as the D.C. area endures its fifth heat wave of 2024.

The National Weather Service has already issued a new Heat Advisory for tomorrow that’s scheduled to take effect from noon to 8 p.m. across the region, including Fairfax County. A similar advisory is now in effect for today (Thursday), prompting the county to activate its heat plan.
