A number of local boys runners and girls teams had strong showings at the Nike Southeast Regional cross-country high-school meets.

The competition was run Saturday (Nov. 23) on the WakeMed Soccer Complex course in Cary, N.C.

In the main girls 5K race, West Springfield girls finished fourth and the Robinson girls fifth.

Leading West Springfield in the meet was senior Adeline Barker in ninth place in 17:33. Sophomore Allie Horner was 25th (17:53), sophomore Reagan Leone 26th (17:54), junior Rickelle Bush 31st (17:57), junior Marie Campbell 145th (19:26), senior Kaylee Horner 184th (19:54) and senior Addison Mau 228th (20:53).

At the recent Virginia High School League Class 6 girls state meet, Robinson had nipped West Springfield for the championship by virtue of a tiebreaker.

In the main Nike boys 5K race in Cary, N.C., Chantilly High School senior Tristan Thurneysen finished 12th in the race in 15:04. His senior teammate Jack Morgan was 50th (15:36). The winning time was 14:23.

No squads from Fairfax County were entered in the team competition of that race.

Thurneysen won this season’s Concorde District, 6D North Region and Virginia High School League Class 6 state championship. Morgan finished high in each of those races, as well.
