Led by a group of sprinters, the South County Stallions sped their way to an indoor track-and-field girls’ state championship.

South County High School in Lorton won the Virginia High School League Class 6 team title in Virginia Beach by a comfortable margin on Tuesday, March 11, amassing 88 points. The Robinson Rams from Fairfax were a distant second with 47.

With top-three finishes in 10 of 12 events and a little help from an opponent, the Robinson Rams won a third straight girls 6C Occoquan Region swimming and diving championship.

The Rams won the high-school competition Friday (Feb. 7) with 365 points at the Oakmont Rec Center in Oakton. The C.G. Woodson Cavaliers were just three points behind in second.

With a little more than two weeks remaining in the regular season, there were eight outright first-place leaders through Tuesday (Jan. 28) action in the four different public-school basketball districts in the 6D North Region.

In girls play, the Langley Saxons at 8-0 were among the leaders, atop the Liberty District by two games over the McLean Highlanders.

An individual state champion and members of a state-title team are among those chosen to Virginia High School League Class 6 all-state girls and boys teams for the 2024 fall season.

Chantilly Chargers’ senior Tristan Thurneysen, who won the Class 6 state championship, heads the all-state boys team. He also won district and region titles preceding the state meet.

They started slow and fell behind early, but by game’s end the Robinson Rams had rallied and were still undefeated in girls high-school basketball action.

Host Robinson (4-0) defeated the Washington-Liberty Generals, 36-29, Monday night (Dec. 9) in a non-district game in Fairfax. The Generals, who were without injured starting center Eve Jungman, fell to 1-2.

A number of local boys runners and girls teams had strong showings at the Nike Southeast Regional cross-country high-school meets.

The competition was run Saturday (Nov. 23) on the WakeMed Soccer Complex course in Cary, N.C.

Decided by a tie-breaker, the Robinson Rams won this year’s Virginia High School League Class 6 girls state cross-country team championship.

Robinson and the West Springfield Spartans tied for first with 57 points Saturday (Nov. 16) on the 5,000-meter Oatlands Plantation course in Leesburg.

With a strong back-nine finish, Robinson Rams’ golfer Erin Mullin finished second in the Girls State Open golf tournament

The junior shot a 1-under-par round of 69 at the Virginia High School League event on the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg Monday (Oct. 28). She was two shots behind the winning seven-birdie round of 67 shot by Kathryn Ha from Salem High of Virginia Beach.

By shooting rounds in the 70s, eight golfers from Fairfax County high school teams earned berths at a qualifying competition to play in the upcoming Girls State Open.

Resulting from their strong play, three players from Robinson and one each from Fairfax, Langley, West Potomac, Woodson and Lake Braddock will participate in the 18-hole Virginia High School League tournament Oct. 28 at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg.
