Multiple cross-country runners from Fairfax schools are all-state

An individual state champion and members of a state-title team are among those chosen to Virginia High School League Class 6 all-state girls and boys teams for the 2024 fall season.

Chantilly Chargers’ senior Tristan Thurneysen, who won the Class 6 state championship, heads the all-state boys team. He also won district and region titles preceding the state meet.

Other male runners from Fairfax County teams selected the Class 6 all-state team are Chantilly’s Jack Morgan, Centreville’s Elijah Post and Mount Vernon’s Addison Brooks. Those three finished in the top 10 in the state meet.

In addition, Post was second in the 6D North Region meet and Brooks won the 6C North Region and National District races.

Heading the all-state Class 6 girls team are three runners from the state-champion Robinson Rams girls team: Karina Bird, Ariana Lopez and Petra Gruendel.

Allie Horner and Adeline Barker from the second-place West Springfield Spartans girls team made all-state. Also chosen all-state from Fairfax County schools are Herndon Hornets’ Meghan Sullivan and C.G. Woodson’s Keira Arenholz.

All of those runners finished among the top 10 in the girls state meet.

Sullivan and Bird won preceding region championships, with Barker second and Horner third. Sullivan and Bird also won different district crowns.
