Fairfax County police are still investigating a crash on Route 28 in Chantilly that killed a pedestrian earlier this week.

A preliminary investigation found that, on Monday (Dec. 23) morning, Amin Emad-Eldin Hammoud, 33, of Centreville was standing on the right shoulder of Route 28 (Sully Road) under Poplar Tree Road after his vehicle became disabled, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The driver of a 2016 Freightliner Cascadia 125 that was headed north on Sully Road in the far-right lane then began drifting right, crossing the solid white line and hitting Hammoud.

Officers responded around 6:33 a.m. Hammoud was declared dead at the scene, and the driver of the commercial truck was taken to a hospital with injuries considered noni-life-threatening, the FCPD said in a news release today (Thursday).

“Alcohol and speed do not appear to be factors for the driver,” the FCPD said. “The circumstances surrounding the crash are still being investigated.”

The police department is asking anyone with information about the crash to contact its Crash Reconstruction Unit at 703-280-0543. Anonymous tips are also accepted through Crime Solvers by phone (1-866-411-TIPS) and online.

Hammoud is the third person to be killed in a crash on Route 28 this year, following the deaths of two motorcyclists in separate crashes in June.
