Another round of snow is expected to hit the D.C. area today (Sunday).
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the region, forecasting between 1 and 3 inches of snow for Fairfax County and other parts of Northern Virginia.
In Fairfax County, the NWS is projecting that rain and sleet will start first before turning into snow after 2 p.m. The advisory took effect at 7 a.m. today and will continue until 7 p.m.
In anticipation of the inclement weather, at 6 a.m., the National Park Service closed the northern section of the George Washington Memorial Parkway from I-495 in McLean to Spout Run in Arlington.
“This closure is necessary to ensure the proper treatment of the roadway and to restore the parkway to safe travel conditions,” the park service said. “Crews will work diligently to treat the road for safe passage of drivers. Drivers should anticipate delays in reopening the northern section of the parkway as crews are required to use smaller equipment than usual to accommodate the lane widths and configurations. Please plan to use alternate routes.”
Fairfax County Public Schools announced this morning that all activities on school grounds starting after noon will be canceled.
