A shopping center in the Kings Park West neighborhood is up for a makeover.
Nearly 50 years after it was first constructed, Twinbrooke Shopping Center (9525 Braddock Road) will kick off a “transformation” later this month to modernize more than two dozen storefronts, property manager Federal Realty announced.
Renovations are set to begin on March 17 and will take approximately 11 months, according to estimates. Businesses will remain open while the work is being completed.
“Constructed in 1977, we are excited to see Twinbrooke transformed into a bustling community hub featuring new modern materials, colors, and architectural features with café seating areas that invite its loyal consumer base to extend their stays,” Federal Realty’s senior vice president of asset management, Deirdre Johnson, said.
The proposed renovations at Twinbrooke will see the replacement of the shopping center’s longtime wood facade, according to renderings. Once completed, the shopping center will feature different facades — black, white or wood, it appears — on different storefronts.
Also planned are the installation of decorative LED lighting and improved landscaping, plus added outdoor seating zones, Federal Realty said. New signage and refinished asphalt surfaces are also on the to-do list.
Twinbrooke, whose major tenants include Safeway, Walgreens and Outback Steakhouse, currently features only one vacant storefront of the 28 at the property, according to a site plan.
Updated aesthetics are not the only change that the shopping center is experiencing. Last month, Twinbrooke welcomed restaurant Noosh Grill, and in the months ahead, a new location of local chain Tony’s NY Pizza is set to open at the center in the former Angie’s Restaurant spot.
