It’s a good week to be a foodie in Fairfax.
The regionwide Metropolitan Washington Summer Restaurant Week is now underway, and later this week, Fairfax City Restaurant Week will return with a total of 27 participating restaurants.
Kicking off Friday (Aug. 22) and continuing through the end of August, the promotional campaign will offer a variety of discounts and deals to diners, encouraging them to sample multiple different cuisines.
“With more daylight and warmer temperatures, there are tempting experiences both outdoors and indoors all across the city,” Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read said in a press release. “Feed the kids, the cousins, and the out-of-town visitors at local restaurants that represent so many different cuisines and choices that it’s like a trip around the world on a plate.”
Participating restaurants plan to offer prix fixe menus: $25 for brunch or lunch, or $40 for a three-course dinner. Some restaurants will also have a two for $10 deal, and some have special “Let’s Work Together” deals that deviate from the standard set prix fixe menus.
The “Let’s Work Together” deals are intended to give restaurants more flexibility in their approach to restaurant week, a public relations representative explained. For example, Okonomi Asian Grill will have an option to buy one bowl and get a second bowl half off, while Two Burritos, which is more of a takeout eatery than a sit-down restaurant, is offering a brunch or lunch for $17.

A couple of the restaurants haven’t posted menus yet, but the PR representative confirmed that all of the ones listed above are participating in this iteration of Fairfax City’s summer restaurant week.
“Each time we host this event, it’s a chance to spotlight the chefs, staff, and small business owners who bring creativity and culture to the table every day,” Fairfax City Economic Development Assistant Director of Programs Tara Borwey said. “This summer, we’re inviting everyone to revisit their favorite spots and support the local restaurants that help define the flavor of Fairfax City.”
Fairfax City’s restaurant weeks are organized by a committee that includes representatives from Fairfax City Economic Development, the Central Fairfax Chamber of Commerce, the Old Town Fairfax Business Association, local restaurant owners and consultants. They’re now in their eighth year, though a summer week wasn’t added until 2022.
