Shipley Do-Nuts eyes summer opening for new Vienna location

Vienna residents will have to wait a little while longer before a forthcoming Shipley Do-Nuts location officially opens for business.

Construction to build out the space adjacent to Smoothie King is underway. But despite recent speculation that it could open as soon as next month, the neighborhood’s new donut shop is not expecting to open its doors until later this summer.

“As of now, the location will not be opening until later Quarter 2 or early Quarter 3,” a spokesperson told FFXnow — meaning the tentative opening will likely fall in June, July or August.

It’s been six months since the chain, which primarily operates in the southern United States, announced plans for its second Virginia location in the Town of Vienna.

Located at 256 Maple Avenue East, the chain will fill a space last occupied by a T-Mobile store. Duck Donuts had previously leased the space but never actually opened at the location.

“We look forward to opening the first Shipley Do-Nuts in Vienna on Maple Avenue in 2026, bringing our famous handmade fresh daily donuts and kolaches to the community,” a spokesperson said last year.

Founded in the early 20th century, the chain currently boasts more than 300 locations nationwide. The forthcoming Vienna location will follow one in Lynchburg, and will be only the second in the D.C. area after a store opened in Clinton, Maryland, in November 2024.

Outside of its donut offerings — which features more than 40 different options — Shipley Do-Nuts is perhaps best known for its selection of kolaches: a dough pocket often filled with savory ingredients, such as bacon, egg, cheese, sausage and more.

The chain will also carry a variety of additional pastries, including bearclaws, apple fritters and cinnamon rolls.

From the start, Shipley Do-Nuts is likely to face some stiff competition. Another local donut shop, Texas Donuts, opened directly across the street last year.
