Print fashion brand Lilly Pulitzer opens in Fairfax County’s Mosaic District

Lilly Pulitzer, the upscale clothing brand best known for its colorful resort-style prints, has opened a second Fairfax County store, this time in the Mosaic District.

The new store opened for a soft launch at 2905 District Avenue, Suite 145, in Merrifield on Sept. 25, becoming the brand’s eighth location in Virginia.

In addition to selling clothing for women, men, and children, the Merrifield store offers styling appointments, complimentary gift wrapping, and the ability to try clothes on in the store that are reserved online.

“We’re thrilled to bring Lilly Pulitzer to Mosaic District and become part of this dynamic and vibrant destination,” said Debbie Negri, senior vice president of retail and wholesale. “Our Virginia stores have built such wonderful relationships with their customers, and we’re excited to bring that same spirit of connection and joy to Mosaic District.”

Laying claim to inventing the shift dress, Lilly Pulitzer opened her first store in Palm Beach, Florida, around 1964. The print dresses, initially crafted in partnership with Key West Hand Print Fabrics, quickly became trendy among customers, including former first lady Jackie Kennedy, a former classmate of Pulitzer’s, according to the company’s official history.

The Mosaic District store echoes the brand’s signature style, featuring three hand-shelled mirrors, custom Lilly Pulitzer mural wallpaper with the pink logo, mother-of-pearl detailing in the checkout area, and flower pendant chandeliers. A lounge area is decorated in pink and green colors.

Previously home to a Southern Tide clothing shop, the new storefront joins existing Lilly Pulitzer locations in Tysons Galleria, Winchester, Williamsburg, Charlottesville, Virginia Beach, and two stores in Richmond.

Lilly Pulitzer is expected to officially celebrate its arrival in Merrifield with a grand opening, but a date for the ceremony hasn’t been determined yet, employees told FFXnow.

In recent months, a few new retailers have moved into the Mosaic District, including Bedhead PJs and Pura Vida Miami, though longtime tenant Alta Strada, an Italian restaurant and wine bar, closed this summer.

Matchbox shuttered in August and will be replaced later this year by Makers Union, a pub concept from the same company, Reston-based Thompson Hospitality.

In the future, shoppers can also expect to see Toimoi Bakery — which has long operated a successful tent at the Mosaic District’s Sunday farmers’ market — open a brick-and-mortar storefront at 2985 District Avenue, Unit 170. Toimoi will take over the space currently occupied by Falafel Inc, which is moving into a bigger space at 2985 District Avenue, Unit 115.
