Cycling paths proposed for Sunrise Valley Drive to Innovation Metro station

Fairfax County plans to seek additional funding for cycling tracks that will run from Fairfax County Parkway to the yet-to-open Innovation Center Metro station in McNair.

Fairfax County has secured $6 million to reconstruct a nearly 3-mile section of Sunset Valley Drive that has sidewalks but no paths dedicated to bicycles. The county government is looking to apply for nearly $17.5 million more from the U.S. Transportation Department.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors is slated to authorize the application at its meeting tomorrow (Tuesday). The county is looking to accomplish the changes by narrowing a median and travel lane widths, according to county transportation notes.

“The grant submission deadline is April 14, 2022, and awards should be made in Summer 2022,” staff said of the project, which would require a 20% or $3.5 million local match.

The potential upgrades are part of the county’s Active Transportation Program, which deals with non-motorized methods of travel and aims to reduce the frequency of vehicles occupied by just one person.

The changes to the four-lane boulevard, which also has additional turning lanes at various intersections, would connect to existing bicycle and pedestrian paths, notably the Fairfax County Parkway Trail.

Some of the corridor includes paved shared-use paths, including newer and wider sections in parts of Reston along Sunset Valley Drive.

The timeline of the project wasn’t immediately clear.

For many remote workers, a messy home is distracting.

You’re getting pulled into meetings, and your unread emails keep ticking up. But you can’t focus because pet hair tumbleweeds keep floating across the floor, your desk has a fine layer of dust and you keep your video off in meetings so no one sees the chaos behind you.

It’s no secret a dirty home is distracting and even adds stress to your life. And who has the energy to clean after work? That’s why it’s smart to enlist the help of professionals, like Well-Paid Maids.
