The rain that’s expected to persist in the D.C. area throughout Memorial Day weekend has already put a damper on one summer tradition.
Tonight’s Friday Night Live! concert in Herndon has been canceled due to the inclement weather, organizers announced this morning (Friday).
“With the forecast showing showers through Sunday afternoon, we are making this call now so our performers, vendors, and volunteers can plan accordingly,” Friday Night Live! Chairman Laura Poindexter said in an email to series supporters.
The cover band Lost in Paris was scheduled to perform at 6:30 p.m. tonight on the Town Green, kicking off the popular summer concert series produced by the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce.
The season will instead begin next Friday, May 29 with the Baltimore-based band Under the Covers. Concerts take place at the Town Green every Friday through Sept. 4, with concessions opening at 6 p.m. and most shows lasting from 6:30 to 10 p.m.
Though there won’t be any live music tonight, organizers are encouraging community members to support restaurants in downtown Herndon that will take a hit from the cancellation, particularly Friday Night Live’s vendors and sponsors:
- Dairy Queen (742 Lynn Street)
- Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern (697 Spring Street)
- Toriz Taco’s (601 Herndon Parkway, #100)
- Wiseguy Pizza (1142 Elden Street)
- Mile 20 at Mediterranean Breeze (783 Station Street)
- Ned Devine’s Irish Gastro Pub and Restaurant (2465 Centreville Road)
Friday Night Live is also running a contest on its Facebook and Instagram pages, offering a chance to win a limited-edition T-shirt or a party package to followers who post “May 29” in the comments.
The contest will be open until 10 p.m. today, and a randomly drawn winner will be notified tomorrow (Saturday).
