A Greek restaurant chain from Maryland will continue its recent expansion into Northern Virginia with a new location in Reston.
The Big Greek Cafe is coming to the North Point Village Center, where it will take over a space vacated in spring 2025 by California Tortilla, according to Nikos Kontos, the restaurant’s director of operations.
“We hope to be open at the end of the year, but if not, it will be early 2027,” he told FFXnow.
First reported by The Burn, the planned Reston location will be Big Greek Cafe’s first brand-new outpost in Virginia. The business first expanded beyond its Maryland base through a late 2024 merger with SouvlakiBar, rebranding the smaller chain’s existing locations in Oakton, Alexandria, Sterling and Leesburg.
At North Point Village Center, the home-style Greek eatery will join a diverse array of dining options, from chains like Chik-fil-A and Glory Days Grill to hyper-local offerings such as Matsutake Sushi and Gregorio’s Trattoria.
Recent additions have included the deli Call Your Mother and Empanadas de Mendoza, which both arrived last year. The juice and smoothie company Robeks is also listed as “coming soon” on the retail center’s website, apparently looking to reestablish a presence in Reston after leaving the Spectrum at Reston Town Center in summer 2025.
“We just feel like it’s a good shopping center,” Kontos said when asked how Big Greek Cafe landed on its future Reston location. “It’s heavily visited. There’s a lot of other stores there that bring and draw people in to the center, and we feel like it’s in a good location.”
According to Kontos, who started Big Greek Cafe with his twin brother, Simos, in 2009, the Reston restaurant will serve the food as the other locations.
Based on traditional family recipes, the menu features pita sandwiches — highlighted by a signature gyro pita — as well as grilled pork and lamb chops, spanakopita, moussaka, pastichio, grilled salmon and crispy flounder. Rice bowls, salads, and chicken strips and skewers are also available.
The Big Greek Cafe will fill approximately 2,000 square feet of space at 1470 North Point Village Center, according to an application submitted last week to Fairfax County for an occupancy certificate.
Like at its other locations, Big Greek Cafe’s goal in Reston will be to deliver “big food [in] big portions at a reasonable price,” Kontos says.
“We are a family-owned and operated business. We strongly believe in community, and we value ourselves on giving back to the community,” Kontos said. “… We do like to provide value to our guests. We do know what everybody is going through in the world with economic changes. They’re pretty tough, and we try to stay mindful of that in everything that we do.”
