A longstanding staple at the South Lakes Village Shopping Center in Reston is saying farewell at the end of September.
Lakeside Asia Cafe (11130 South Lakes Dr J) will close after its last day of business on Wednesday, Sept. 30, according to notices posted outside the restaurant and on its website.
A longstanding staple of Reston’s dining scene, Lakeside Asia Cafe specializes in cuisine from China’s Sichuan province, courtesy of executive chef Chen Wei. According to the restaurant’s website, Wei worked at five-star hotels and taught at the Sichuan Culinary School before moving to the U.S.
The restaurant shared a message for customers amid the closing:
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
After 13 wonderful years, Lakeside Asia Cafe will be closing permanently. Our last day of business will be September 30.
Serving this community has been a joy and a privilege. We are deeply grateful for your support, kindness, and friendship over the years. You made Lakeside Asia Cafe more than a restaurant, and we will always treasure the memories we made together.
Thank you for being part of our journey. We hope to see you once more before we close. We will miss you!

According to a retail site plan, the shopping center on Lake Thoreau currently has four vacancies, including the 1,900-square-foot Lakeside Asia Cafe space. Both drive-thru bank buildings remain available for leasing, as is an 1,800-square-foot suite adjacent to Cafesano. Next door to Lakeside Asia Cafe, Meadows Frozen Custard opened last December after relocating from Ashburn.
