A Fairfax resident who served in the U.S. Army and was recently let go by the Federal Aviation Administration job as part of the current White House’s push to drastically downsize the federal government will attend President Donald Trump’s joint address to Congress.

Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine announced yesterday that he has invited Jason King as his guest for Trump’s first speech to Congress since the president returned to office for a second term on Jan. 20.

Immigrant advocates decry order for Virginia State Police, local jails to assist ICE

After seeking to pressure localities to work with federal immigration authorities by proposing to withhold funding, Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin is now directly ordering state police and local jails to cooperate.

Youngkin signed an executive order last Thursday (Feb. 27) directing the Virginia State Police to sign an agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that would create a task force with deputized troopers who can help identify and arrest undocumented individuals “who pose a risk to public safety.”

Herndon man charged with DWI for crash that killed teen

A crash in Centreville that killed a teenager last Thursday (Feb. 27) was the result of a drunk driver, Fairfax County police say.

Officers responded at 10:28 p.m. that night to the 5600 block of Pleasant Valley Road for the two-vehicle crash.

BREAKING: Former FCPD officer sentenced to jail for fatal Tysons shooting

The former Fairfax County police officer who fatally shot Timothy McCree Johnson outside Tysons Corner Center in February 2023 has been sentenced to three years in prison.

Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Randy Bellows sentenced former sergeant Wesley Shifflett to five years of incarceration today (Friday) with two years suspended, the Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office announced.

FCPD charges teens seen displaying gun at elementary school

Two teenagers are facing criminal charges after reportedly brandishing a gun at Mount Vernon Woods Elementary School in Woodlawn yesterday (Thursday).

Officers responded to the school at 4015 Fielding Street at 2:53 p.m. after “several” students reported seeing two men on the property, one of whom displayed a gun, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

A school in Reston has been chosen to host the centerpiece event of this year’s nationwide Read Across America campaign.

Local author Kwame Alexander will visit Langston Hughes Middle School at 2:30 p.m. this Sunday (March 2) to celebrate Read Across America Day as well as the 10th anniversary of his 2015 Newbery Medal win for the bestselling novel “The Crossover.”

Fitness company targets Tysons for first Northern Virginia studio

A fitness chain endorsed by “Friends” star Jennifer Aniston is extending its reach to Northern Virginia.

Pvolve announced this week that it has signed a franchise agreement with Dr. Mona Keshtkaran for two studios in the region. The New York City-based company also has deals for its first franchises in Chicago and Seattle.

Fairfax County police are investigating a fatal shooting in Chantilly that’s being described as domestic in nature.

Officers responded to a home in the 13000 block of Pennypacker Lane around 6:09 a.m. today (Friday) after getting a 911 call reporting that multiple gunshots had been fired inside the house.

Reston man sentenced to prison for sexually exploiting teens

A Reston man has been sentenced by a federal judge to nearly two decades in prison for preying on teens he encountered online — more than three years after Fairfax County courts dismissed similar charges against him.

Xavier Dejuan Jackson, 28, was sentenced to 19 years in prison by U.S. District Judge Michael S. Nachmanoff in Alexandria today (Thursday) after he pleaded guilty last year to sexually exploiting a child, transporting minors and attempting to coerce a minor to engage in illegal sexual activity, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Virginia announced.
