License plate reader used to find stolen vehicle in Reston, make arrest

A Centreville man is facing criminal charges after police connected him to a vehicle reported stolen in Reston.

According to the Fairfax County Police Department, detectives responded to the 1600 block of Reston Parkway around 12:35 p.m. on Monday (Nov. 24) after receiving an alert for a 1999 Toyota Camry that had been reported stolen the previous day.

Lower speed limit to take effect on part of Herndon Parkway next week

Watch out, Herndon drivers: December will bring an expansion of the 25-mph speed limit zone on Herndon Parkway.

Starting Monday (Dec. 1), the speed limit will drop from 35 to 25 mph on the parkway between Campbell Way and Summerfield Drive, extending an existing 25-mph section that starts at Van Buren Street.

Thanksgiving week has arrived, and for many local businesses, that means a critical holiday shopping season will soon be in full swing.

Small Business Saturday sales are expected to deliver nearly 20% of the annual revenue, on average, for small businesses this year, according to a study by American Express, which created the occasion in 2010.

Thanksgiving to affect government offices and services across Fairfax County

Like some businesses, local government offices and many services are set to close for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Administrative offices for Fairfax County as well as smaller jurisdictions like Vienna, Herndon and Fairfax City will all be closed on both Thursday and Friday (Nov. 27-28). However, some services will still be available or follow modified schedules.

One person is dead and three other people are injured after an apparently alcohol-fueled crash on Worldgate Drive in Herndon that involved an ambulance.

A worker on the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department’s ambulance 436 reported around 4:02 p.m. Tuesday (Nov. 25) that they were “involved” in a collision at the intersection of Worldgate Drive and Alton Square outside WorldGate Plaza, according to scanner traffic.

Reston Association adopts budget with higher assessment, reduced pool hours

Reston Association has solidified a new budget for the coming year, approving funding for some new projects while cutting back on swimming pool hours.

The association’s board of directors voted 7-2 at its Nov. 13 meeting to adopt a $24 million budget for 2026 based on a new annual member assessment rate of $890.

Centreville movie theater acquired by real estate company

A longstanding movie theater in Centreville has changed hands, raising the prospect that it could be redeveloped in the future.

Finmarc Management, a commercial real estate firm based in Bethesda, Maryland, announced on Friday (Nov. 21) that it has acquired Cinemark Centreville (6201 Multiplex Drive) and Xscape Theatres (7710 Matapeake Business Drive) in Prince George’s County for a combined $15.1 million.

Workers and visitors at Capital One Center can now take a more direct route to and from the McLean Metro station.

After years of planning and construction, a new entrance with bicycle parking has opened on the station’s north side facing Capital One Drive, providing easier access to the development on Capital One’s Tysons campus, the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) announced last week (Nov. 17).

Sweetgreen sets new opening date for McLean restaurant

Sweetgreen has settled on a new opening date for its restaurant in McLean, one that will hopefully stick.

After canceling a previously scheduled Nov. 11 launch, the fast-casual salad chain now anticipates opening its doors at 6220 Old Dominion Drive in Chesterbrook Shopping Center on Tuesday, Dec. 2.

Virginia officials promise traffic relief with new I-495 toll lanes opening this weekend

After more than three years of construction, the new Capital Beltway toll lanes in McLean will welcome their first drivers on Sunday (Nov. 23), just in time for next week’s Thanksgiving travel rush.

Though the start of tolling operations has been delayed by a day due to expected rain tonight (Friday), Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay and other officials gathered this morning for a ribbon-cutting ceremony in anticipation of the occasion at the Hyatt Regency hotel at Tysons Corner Center.
