Carnival rides, farm animals, live entertainment and more will mingle at Frying Pan Farm Park this week for the 75th annual Fairfax County Carnival and Fair.

Organized by Fairfax County 4-H and the Fairfax County Park Authority, the festivities at 2709 West Ox Road in the Herndon area will kick off this Thursday (July 31), with the carnival rides and games operating from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A prominent real estate agent based in Tysons has been arrested after investigators learned about multiple allegations of him inappropriately touching children, Fairfax County police say.

Detectives began investigating Christopher Dudley, a 46-year-old man living in the Fairfax area, after Fairfax County Child Protective Services received a referral for a child who was reportedly “inappropriately touched by an adult male,” according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

A Virginia private school that serves students with autism and other behavioral health needs is relocating from Loudoun County to Reston.

Rivermont Schools announced last Wednesday (July 23) that its Sterling campus at 45305 Catalina Court will move next month to a new facility at 11411 Isaac Newton Square South. The buildout is expected to finish in August, in time for the start of the 2025-2026 school year.

For its next act, 1st Stage Theatre in Tysons will get a major face-lift.

The nonprofit theater company is in the midst of a three-year campaign to raise $4 million that will be used to upgrade its home in the Spring Hill Business Center (1524 Spring Hill Road), increase staff pay, expand programming and more.

A man was killed in a single-vehicle crash on Fairfax County Parkway in Burke earlier this afternoon (Friday).

Officers were dispatched to Fairfax County Parkway at Old Keene Mill Road around 4:09 p.m. for a tractor-trailer that had flipped over, according to scanner traffic.

The U.S. Department of Education is pushing several Northern Virginia school districts, including Fairfax County Public Schools, to roll back their policies intended to support transgender students.

The Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights (OCR) announced today (Friday) that it has found FCPS and its counterparts in Arlington, Alexandria, Prince William and Loudoun in violation of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, arguing that letting students use bathrooms and other facilities consistent with their gender identity constitutes discrimination on the basis of sex.

A man has been arrested for a home burglary in the Fair Oaks area that appears to be connected to an armed robbery at a Tysons parking garage.

Police officers were first dispatched to the office building at 8605 Westwood Center Drive around 9:07 a.m. on Wednesday (July 23) for a reported robbery, according to scanner traffic.

Spotted lanternflies are booming in Fairfax County.

Primarily concentrated in the western part of the county just a couple of years ago, the invasive pest can now be seen throughout Fairfax and the D.C. region. Sightings have also been reported this summer in Arlington, Falls Church and the District.

Commuters might want to think twice before braving Old Dominion Drive in McLean this afternoon (Thursday).

The road is undergoing paving work today, requiring alternating lane closures for both west and eastbound traffic from Briar Ridge Road near the Chesterbrook Shopping Center past Little Falls Road in Arlington County.
