A group of Northern Virginia residents who bonded through their shared love of live music now hopes to translate that passion into support for a worthy cause — and a memorable goodbye for a local band.

NoVA Live Music Mingle will host its first-ever fundraiser tonight (Thursday) at Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern (697 Spring Street) in Herndon to benefit the music education program StudioRock of Northern Virginia.

Update — More than 10,000 Dominion Energy customers in Fairfax County have lost power as thunderstorms sweep through the D.C. region.

As of 7:20 p.m., the outages appear to be concentrated in the south central part of the county, from Newington up to the Falls Church area, according to the utility’s outage map.

The bakery, which started in Korea but serves French-style pastries, will anchor Luna Hall Tysons, a new food hall expected to open on the ground floor of the office building at 8201 Greensboro Drive near Tysons Galleria later this summer.

Reston Town Center has booked another restaurant tenant for its expansion along Sunset Hills Road.

The Italian restaurant Grazie Nonna and the deli Grazie Grazie — which share an owner and are primarily based in D.C. — are both expected to open at the development known informally as RTC Next in spring 2026, a public relations representative for property owner BXP told FFXnow.

Police are still searching for a driver who allegedly shot another man on I-495 last month in an apparent act of road rage.

Around 9:12 a.m. on June 11, the victim was driving south on I-495 in a brown 1999 Chevy Suburban SUV near Duke Street in Alexandria when they might’ve cut off the driver of a black BMW sedan, according to the Virginia State Police.

Pedestrians and cyclists who frequent the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail will need to find an alternative route through the Dunn Loring area this week.

The trail closed yesterday (Monday) between Gallows Road in Dunn Loring and Shreve Road in Idylwood to give crews room to install a new electric transmission line as part of Dominion Energy’s Clark-Idylwood reconductor project. The closure will remain in place on Friday (July 11).

Shake Shack has settled on an opening date for its new restaurant at Reston Town Center.

The chain will start serving its signature burgers and shakes at 11922 Democracy Drive on Wednesday, July 16, Shake Shack communications manager Kate DeMarco says. The initial “wave” of customers to arrive when doors open at 11 a.m. will receive Shake Shack stickers.

Though fireworks are a traditional staple of Independence Day celebrations, they tend to be less welcome even on that occasion when unleashed without warning.

Such was the case last Friday (July 4) at a McDonald’s in Reston. Multiple people reportedly set off fireworks inside the fast-food restaurant, sparking havoc as patrons and employees fled the quickly smoke-filled scene.

The Virginia State Police is investigating a two-vehicle crash in the Capital Beltway (I-495) toll lanes near Dunn Loring that killed two people yesterday (Sunday).

Police and Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department (FCFRD) units responded to the northbound I-495 Express Lanes around 2:34 a.m. south of Leesburg Pike (Route 7) for a “crash with injury [and] vehicle on fire,” according to scanner traffic.

Though Marriott is no longer coming, the developer behind Tysons II is keeping its hopes alive for a new hotel on Route 7 (Leesburg Pike).

On behalf of Lerner Enterprises, the law firm Walsh, Colucci, Lubeley & Walsh has requested a three-year extension of the deadline to start construction on a hotel greenlit by the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors for 7799 Leesburg Pike in Idylwood in 2015.
