FCPD: Teen covered in spray paint arrested for ‘hate-based’ graffiti in Burke

A teenager believed to be behind more than 50 graffiti incidents in Burke was caught this week by Fairfax County police.

Responding to the 9500 block of Burke Road for multiple reports of vandalized property around 11:20 p.m. last night (Thursday), officers located a 16-year-old suspect who was covered in spray paint, police said.

Dumfries man sentenced to prison for series of Fairfax County armed robberies

A Dumfries man will serve nearly 20 years in federal prison, primarily for his involvement in four different armed robberies in Fairfax County.

Dwayne Selman-Neville, 38, was sentenced yesterday (Thursday) to 19 years and two months of incarceration after pleading guilty on Oct. 11 to charges of conspiracy to commit armed robbery and possession with the intent to distribute controlled substances.

A shopping center in the Kings Park West neighborhood is up for a makeover.

Nearly 50 years after it was first constructed, Twinbrooke Shopping Center (9525 Braddock Road) will kick off a “transformation” later this month to modernize more than two dozen storefronts, property manager Federal Realty announced.

Falls Church man sentenced for massage parlor robberies, assaults

A Falls Church man will spend the next 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to two violent incidents at Fairfax County massage parlors.

Mohamed Adem Tahir, 35, was sentenced last Friday (March 7) after admitting to robbing and assaulting employees at two different massage parlors.

Health officials confirm measles case at Dulles Airport

State health officials have been alerted to a confirmed case of measles in a recent traveler at Dulles International Airport.

A Maryland resident returning to the D.C. area earlier this month may have exposed other travelers to the highly contagious, airborne illness, local health departments said over the weekend.

Former FCPS after-school worker pleads guilty to minor-involved sex crimes

A former independent contractor who worked in Fairfax County Public Schools admitted to perpetrating multiple sex crimes this week.

Arturo Elmore-Adon, 26, pleaded guilty Tuesday (March 4) to two counts of possessing child pornography, four counts of unlawful videotaping of a minor and one count of sexual battery.

Vienna Restaurant Week returns this weekend with more than 40 eateries

In mere days, the Town of Vienna will kick off its annual Restaurant Week.

More than 40 restaurants will offer prix fixe menus, discounts or specials as part of the event, which starts Friday, March 7. A “festive social event” will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m. that day at the Vienna Town Green, featuring music, giveaways and free refreshments.

Descano slams Youngkin’s decision to commute prison sentence for former police officer

Fairfax County Commonwealth’s Attorney Steve Descano slammed Gov. Glenn Youngkin today (Monday), accusing the Republican executive of commuting a former police officer’s prison sentence without regard for “the law or the facts.”

The governor’s office announced late Sunday that Youngkin had commuted the sentence of former Sgt. Wesley Shifflett only two days after it was handed down by Fairfax County Circuit Court Judge Randy I. Bellows.
