Fairfax County could be next in bestowing the honorary name “Saigon Blvd” on a stretch of Wilson Blvd near Seven Corners.
Board of Supervisors Chairman Jeff McKay nodded in the affirmative when asked at a Wednesday (Jan. 22) ceremony whether Fairfax would be willing to join Falls Church in renaming the area in front of the Eden Center in honor of the one-time South Vietnamese capital.
The Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington’s (RAMW) Winter Restaurant Week is back.
Starting next Monday, Jan. 27 and continuing through Sunday, Feb. 2, the biannual campaign to promote the D.C. region’s culinary scene will feature more than three dozen restaurants from Fairfax County, along with establishments in the District, Maryland and elsewhere in Northern Virginia.

This past year, I took a leap that honestly scared me. Why I started All Team Exteriors
I’ve worked in environments where professionalism, follow‑through, and integrity weren’t optional — they were the baseline. But when it came to home services, especially roofing, I saw how often homeowners were left frustrated, confused, or ignored. Slow responses. Vague communication. Contractors disappearing mid‑project.
And I thought:
Someone young, hungry, and honest should try to fix this.
So… I’m giving it everything I’ve got.
What I’m trying to build
All Team Exteriors isn’t a giant corporation. It’s not some out-of-state outfit with a call center. It’s me — and a small team of people committed to doing things the right way. We spent an extensive amount of time training under a perennial award-winning roofing company in Arizona this winter and learned what great looks like.
We’re bringing modern tools, photo-documented inspections, real-time updates, fast communication, and a “do what we say we’ll do” mentality. Not because it looks good in a brochure, but because that’s how I’d want someone to treat my own family.
So far we are off to an absolutely amazing start. It’s been a great first summer and we’d love to help you as well. Parents Advocate for Later Middle School Start Times — “Mason District parents are pushing back against a delay in implementing later middle school start times. In September 2023, FCPS awarded a contract to Prismatic Services to develop a plan for changing middle school start times — to 8 a.m. or later ” to take effect in fall 2025. Reminder: Avoid Northern I-495 This Weekend — Starting today, “traffic on northbound I-495 will be reduced from six lanes (four general purpose and two express) to two lanes and shifted to the 495 Express Lanes for about a one-mile stretch near Tysons. Traffic shifts and lane reductions will be in place for approximately three miles beginning at the Route 7 interchange until just past Lewinsville Road.” [VDOT]
General Assembly Advances Bills on Contraception — “With contraception rights under scrutiny nationwide, Virginia Democrats are doubling down on efforts to safeguard access, even as they brace for potential pushback from Gov. Glenn Youngkin. House Bill 1716 … passed the House of Delegates on Thursday, while a companion bill … cleared the Senate Education and Health Committee.” [Virginia Mercury]
Woman Recalls Sexual Abuse on Great Falls Farm — “It was something Stephanie, 56, had accepted as a fact of life: She was assaulted, repeatedly, from ages 11 to 14 at the Great Falls barn where she mucked out stalls and fed horses.” Stephanie recently recounted her experiences to Fairfax County police, leading to charges of indecent liberties with a child younger than 14 against the 81-year-old man. No Go on Bills to Eliminate Legal Notice Requirements — “A bipartisan pair of Virginia Delegates sought to roll back legal notice publishing requirements for localities this session. But both efforts are dead for the time being.” The bill in the House of Delegates, sponsored by Vienna Del. Holly Seibold, died last Friday, Jan. 17. [Virginia Public Radio/WVTF]
Fairfax Circle Eatery Beloved by Local Venezuelans — “Although it’s less widely known than Arepa Zone, Antojitos de tu País, which moved into a Fairfax commercial kitchen in 2015, is going strong. It has become a passion project for Febres and Arellano—with an almost entirely separate customer base.” [Washingtonian]
High School Basketball Players Lead Literacy Lessons — “Each Wednesday afternoon during the winter months, the Annandale High School boys and girls basketball teams make the short walk to Braddock Elementary School for a very important match-up. The Atoms athletes are there to mentor third graders who could benefit from a little extra support in reading comprehension.” [FCPS]

The girls high-school team won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays at the Independent School League conference meet at Stone Ridge School in D.C. The 200 relay won in 1:37.1 and the 400 in 3:34.71.
Eight players from Fairfax County high schools were members of the Hampden-Sydney College football team during the fall season.
Three of the players were significant contributors for the Division III Virginia team that finished with a 5-5 overall record and 3-4 in conference play.

The career transportation planner has been appointed as Fairfax County’s permanent director of transportation after intially filling the role on an interim basis following predecessor Tom Biesiadny’s retirement in May 2023, the county announced today (Thursday).
Reston Town Center will embrace the season this weekend with a new wintry event.
