One thing remains constant about this season’s 6D North Region tournament-championship football game. The Madison Warhawks will be playing in the high-school contest for a fifth straight year.

Four-time defending champion, top seed and undefeated Madison (12-0) also will be hosting that clash for the fifth time in a row in Vienna, with kickoff slated for Saturday (Nov. 30) at 1 p.m.

Slighted — very much unintentionally — during pregame introductions, Bella Kim certainly wasn’t forgotten once a recent all-star field-hockey match began.

By scoring a goal, assisting on another and taking multiple shots, the senior for the Potomac School Panthers was selected as the Player of the Game for the Home team in the annual Independent School League girls all-star game.

Then came the 2024 high-school campaign — one of the school’s best ever.

Countywide

The Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) expects performance at Dulles International Airport to have a solid tailwind throughout 2025.

The authority’s calendar-year-2025 budget projects 13.7 million passenger enplanements at the airport in the coming year. If it transpires, passenger counts for 2025 would rise slightly from updated 2024 projections and be up 10.5% from 2019, the last year before arrival of Covid sent air travel into a tailspin.

Apricot Lane has arrived at Chesterbrook Shopping Center in McLean just in time for Christmas shopping to kick into full gear.

The clothing boutique opened yesterday (Thursday) at 6224 Old Dominion Drive, Suite 6F. The 1,987-square-foot store will be located in between another upcoming fashion store, Sassanova, and the restaurant Sorn Thai.

Redevelopment of vacant commercial parcels in Springfield into housing is one step closer to reality, though there are still contentious issues to be worked through later in the process.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved Comprehensive Plan amendments on Tuesday (Nov. 19) to permit up to 732 multifamily units and ground-floor non-residential uses on multiple parcels along Springfield Blvd and Amherst Avenue.

D.C.’s National Cherry Blossom Festival recently branched out to Reston with the planting of six Yoshino cherry trees at South Lakes High School.

Representatives of the festival and the Japanese airline All-Nippon Airways (ANA), which sponsored the trees, joined school officials and students on Nov. 13 for a ceremony to celebrate the plantings, which had taken place on Oct. 23.

This holiday season, shoppers at Tysons Corner Center will be able to buy gifts for local charities as well as their family and friends.

Northern Virginia’s biggest mall was chosen as this year’s host of the Giving Machines, philanthropic vending machines that will be unveiled with a “Grand Unwrapping” event at noon tomorrow (Saturday) outside AMC Theatres (7850 Tysons Corner Center).
