(Updated at 2 p.m. on 05/10/2024) As the Virginia summer looms, residents of Reston’s tent encampment are preparing for challenges beyond sweltering temperatures.

Many are anxious about the impending installation of no-trespassing signs, which will mark the beginning of a two-week countdown before they must leave the forested area between Inova’s emergency room, the North County Government Center and Sunrise Assisted Living. The encampment stretches across multiple properties owned by Inova and the county.

Fairfax County is taking another look at its plans for the Franconia Governmental Center.

After two initial meetings to gather input from the community in April, Franconia District Supervisor Rodney Lusk hosted a final community conversation at John Lewis High School on Monday (May 6) to share preliminary feedback on what the county should do with the nearly 3-acre property at 6121 Franconia Road.

The time has come for Vienna residents to take a stand on the town’s parks and recreation facilities, events and programming.

The Town of Vienna will host an “interactive” community meeting next week to solicit public input on its new parks master plan. Dubbed “Our Plan to Play,” the document will establish a vision for the town’s parks and rec system, identifying existing gaps and amenities that could be added in the future.

The winners of the 2024 ArtsFairfax Awards are in.

ArtsFairfax, a nonprofit that serves as Fairfax County’s arts agency, announced this week that it will honor Reston dancer Shu-Chen Cuff, philanthropist Anne R. Kline and two local charities at its annual awards ceremony, which will be held for a fourth straight year at Capital One Hall (7750 Capital One Tower Road) in Tysons.

Developer Cityline Partners secured the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors’ approval yesterday (Tuesday) to construct a dual-branded Hilton hotel on part of a block originally slated to become an 18-story office building.

An Arlington-based developer has proposed demolishing a large office building in Oakton and replacing it with 139 townhomes.

Property owner Flint Hill Propco LLC, an affiliate of Network Realty Partners, aims to replace the 183,000-square-foot office building and the surrounding parking lot at 3201 Jermantown Road in the Flint Hill Office Park, according to an application recently submitted to Fairfax County.

Gunfire Reported in Fair Lakes Neighborhood — “According to Fairfax County police, the shooting was reported during a gathering at one of the townhouses in the Fair Lakes community. Upon arrival, officers encountered a large group of people leaving the home. Video footage captured people desperately seeking refuge and calling for help amidst the chaos.” [FOX5]
