Scott’s Run Nature Preserve will be off limits to visitors for a third consecutive spring to allow more sewer upgrades.

The park at 7400 Georgetown Pike in McLean is scheduled to close on Monday, Feb. 16 for an “urgent” project to rehabilitate a siphon facility that carries wastewater across the Potomac River to D.C. Water’s Potomac Interceptor in Maryland, according to the Fairfax County Park Authority.

Culmore Community Library will have only a couple of weeks to enjoy 2026 before shuttering for the remainder of the new year.

Fairfax County Public Library (FCPL) announced yesterday (Monday) that its Bailey’s Crossroads branch will close to the public on Jan. 17, 2026 to allow “significant” repairs and upgrades to its heating, ventilation and air conditioning system.

Snakeden Branch Trail has reopened in Reston after an extended closure due to an FBI investigation.

Residents reported that a white van was parked near a bridge along the trail for much of today (Wednesday), and FBI agents wearing white jumpsuits were spotted working in the woods.

After returning to class today (Monday), students at Fairfax County’s public schools can look forward to an extra day off next month.

With “more than half” of them being used as polling places in Sept. 9’s special election, Fairfax County Public Schools announced earlier this month that all 199 of its schools will be closed that day at the suggestion of the Fairfax County Office of Elections.

After this week, the Cathy Hudgins Community Center at Southgate will be out of commission for the remainder of 2025.

The facility at 12125 Pinecrest Road in south Reston will close for about 20 weeks starting this Saturday (Aug. 16) to accommodate renovations, including a full heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system overhaul, according to the Fairfax County Department of Neighborhood and Community Services (NCS).

Portions of the Franconia Rec Center will close later this month through mid-September so that the Fairfax County Park Authority can upgrade air-quality systems in the facility.

The work will include two full-building closures, slated for Wednesdays, Aug. 20 and Sept. 3. Backup days are scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 21 and Sept. 4.

Costco’s heavily used gas station in the Fair Oaks area will soon be out of commission.

Starting tomorrow (Tuesday), the big-box warehouse at 4725 West Ox Road is temporarily closing its gas station to allow construction on an expansion. The existing pumps are expected to close for about 48 days, according to notices posted at the checkout lines.

Pedestrians and cyclists who frequent the Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Trail will need to find an alternative route through the Dunn Loring area this week.

The trail closed yesterday (Monday) between Gallows Road in Dunn Loring and Shreve Road in Idylwood to give crews room to install a new electric transmission line as part of Dominion Energy’s Clark-Idylwood reconductor project. The closure will remain in place on Friday (July 11).

Blue Line riders be aware: there’s some rehabilitation work coming up this month that will close parts of the route in Fairfax, though replacement buses will be available.

Metro reminded riders in a release that the upcoming track work is scheduled to run from Saturday, July 5, through Saturday, July 26.

A popular summer camp in Lake Barcroft remains closed days after a storm took out its electricity last Thursday (June 19).

Though Dominion Energy has restored power to nearly all of the 70,000-plus affected residents and businesses, a handful of customers are still dealing with outages — including Congressional Camp, which shared on Friday (June 20) that the storm had taken out a transformer for its 40-acre campus at 3229 Sleepy Hollow Road.
