This year promises to be a big one for Reston Station.

Most pieces of Reston Row, a new district expanding the development along Sunset Hills Road near the Wiehle Metro station, are on track to finish construction by the end of 2025, according to a spokesperson for the developer Comstock Companies.

Shovels are almost ready to dig into Virginia Tech’s Northern Virginia Center in Idylwood.

HITT Contracting will begin construction in January on its new headquarters at the 7.41-acre academic campus, with an official groundbreaking ceremony on Jan. 23, Jaclyn Randolph, the construction firm’s senior communications manager, says.

Construction is moving along on United Airlines’ new concourse at Dulles International Airport, a 14-gate expansion that officials say will usher in a “new era of growth” for the D.C. region’s largest airline.

Expected to open in late 2026, the 435,000-square-foot Concourse E will directly connect to the airport’s underground Aerotrain station, add capacity for international flights and offer new amenities, including retail, concessions and a 40,000-square-foot United Club for the airline’s members.

McLean Central Park has reopened to the public following a major revitalization project nearly two years in the making.

The upgrades include modernized playgrounds, a new pavilion, improved walkways and enhanced green spaces. While the Fairfax County Parking Authority is still finalizing a new donor wall, a grand reopening ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. this Saturday (Dec. 7).

Taco Bell is working on a makeover in Reston, but when it will be delivered is not yet clear.

The fast-food chain closed its existing restaurant near the Wiehle Metro station at 11257 Roger Bacon Drive around mid-November, erecting a chain-link fence around the building to indicate that construction on a planned renovation is near.

United Airlines is building a new facility to train its flight attendants based at Dulles International Airport and elsewhere in the D.C. region.

Construction is now underway on the 20,000-square-foot Inflight Training Center, a $16 million investment that’s expected to open sometime next year, the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority (FCEDA) announced yesterday (Monday).

A nearly 3-mile stretch of the Washington & Old Dominion Trail has been out of commission this week, but pedestrians and bicyclists should be able to return soon.

Dominion Energy closed the trail from Mill Street NE in Vienna to Sandburg Street in Dunn Loring on Monday, Nov. 11 as part of its ongoing project to replace electric power lines between the Clark and Idylwood substations.

A new route is now available to help pedestrians and bicyclists travel between Reston Town Center and its paired Metro station.

The newly completed pedestrian bridge over the Washington & Old Dominion Trail near the Reston Town Center Transit Station (12051 Bluemont Way) drew “lots of people” when it opened over the last weekend (Nov. 2-3), one reader told FFXnow.
