Fairfax County is losing Taste of NoVA to Prince William County, a consequence of the federal government shutdown stretching into a second week.

The food festival was set to unfold this weekend (Oct. 11-12) at the National Museum of the U.S. Army in Fort Belvoir, which has been closed since Oct. 1 with all events canceled as long as the shutdown continues.

Fairfax County’s very own film festival is returning this month with a lineup that ranges from “Shrek” to ruminations on women’s rights in Iran and European attitudes toward refugees.

Now in its 14th year, the Washington West Film Festival will kick off this Friday (Oct. 3) at Reston Town Center with a 25th-anniversary screening of “Shrek,” organized in conjunction with the town center’s inaugural Rocktoberfest. More than a dozen other movies will follow from Oct. 9-13.

October will give local residents the chance to “fall into the arts” with artoberVA, a month-long celebration of the arts across Fairfax County.

A collaboration between ArtsFairfax and CultureWorks, the initiative will present a number of free events coupled with discount offers from local artists and arts organizations across Fairfax County and the cities of Fairfax and Falls Church.

The end of September is within sight, which means Oktoberfest season will soon be in full swing.

One of the bigger festivals in the region is the Vienna Oktoberfest, which is organized by the Vienna Business Association and now celebrating its 16th year.

Restonians are once again expected to turn out by the thousands for a community-wide yard sale this weekend.

According to a release, Reston Association’s semi-annual Community Yard Sale is scheduled to come back “bigger than ever” on Saturday, Sept. 27, from 8:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at 12010 Sunrise Valley Drive, near the Reston Wegmans.

For two days next month, Capital One Center in Tysons will give the arts precedence over traffic.

The mixed-use development will close its streets on Oct. 4-5 for the first-ever Celebration of the Arts, a free outdoor festival that will offer exhibits, workshops, live music, food vendors and more.

Dulles Day is coming in for a landing this Saturday (Sept. 13).

The annual Special Olympics Virginia fundraiser will return to Dulles International Airport for a 34th year with a variety of activities, including the signature Dulles Plane Pull organized by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA) Police Department.

The U.S. Army’s annual Ten-Miler Expo is relocating from D.C. to Springfield this year as a result of the National Guard’s continued presence in the nation’s capital.

The Army Ten-Miler announced earlier this week that its 2025 expo will be held at The St. James (6805 Industrial Road) in Springfield on Oct. 10-11 “due to the unavailability of the DC Armory” — the event’s traditional location.

Cirque du Soleil is back in Tysons.

After visiting George Mason University’s Eagle Bank Arena last spring, the Canadian circus will once again open up its Big Top at Lerner Town Square (8025 Galleria Drive) for a new show, starting tomorrow (Saturday).
