The govenator is coming to Northern Virginia, and he’ll be here to welcome some of the nation’s newest citizens.

Former California governor and “Terminator” star Arnold Schwarzenegger will give the marquee address at a naturalization ceremony at George Washington’s Mount Vernon on the Fourth of July. Schwarzenegger will address over 100 newly sworn-in citizens at 10 a.m.

Parking passes are now available for the annual Independence Day fireworks at Lake Fairfax Park (1400 Lake Fairfax Drive) in Reston.

This Saturday (June 28) will bring a full day of festivities to the park, capped off with an early Fourth of July fireworks show in the evening.

A new housing option has opened up at the Halley Rise development in Reston.

After wrapping up construction last year, The Arbor at Halley Rise will celebrate its grand opening from noon to 3 p.m. tomorrow (Saturday), inviting current and possibly future residents to partake in food, drinks, lawn games and live entertainment as they get a look at the finished building.

Juneteenth is tomorrow (Thursday), marking the 160th anniversary of the day Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation in the state.

While some festivities took place last weekend, including Vienna’s Liberty Amendments Month kick-off and Fairfax City’s celebration, Fairfax County will still play host to a number of events commemorating the end of slavery in the U.S. and showcasing the historical and cultural contributions of African Americans.

Soccer fever is in the air, with the FIFA World Cup and the Tysons Community Alliance’s COPA Tysons Soccer Fest both back in action.

The Town of Vienna will host a parade of its own to kick off its fifth annual Liberty Amendments Month celebrations, which shine a light on the 13th, 14th, 15th and 19th amendments to the U.S. Constitution for bringing the country closer to its egalitarian ideals, at least on paper.

Foodies seeking tips for making their own sushi or cocktails will get an opportunity to learn from experts in those crafts next month, courtesy of Capital One Center’s inaugural Culinary Week.

The promotional campaign will bring together restaurants in the development around Capital One’s Tysons headquarters on July 14-18 for an assortment of activities, from the aforementioned sushi and cocktail-making classes to a Battle of the Chefs contest.

Fairfax County Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Adventure is back.

Kids and adults alike will be able to start logging books and activities tomorrow (Wednesday), though registration for the program has been open since June 4.
