More commercial development in Fairfax County could soon give way to housing after the Board of Supervisors approved that option for a pair of office properties in the Fair Oaks area.

The board voted unanimously at its Nov. 18 meeting to amend the county’s comprehensive plan and allow the Fair Oaks Business Park and nearby High Ridge office building to be redeveloped with more than 800 new homes.

The Fairfax County Police Department has confirmed that the man found dead in a median on Fairfax County Parkway on Wednesday (Dec. 24) was a pedestrian killed in a crash.

Officers responded at 9:43 a.m. that day after a community member who was driving by on the parkway reported seeing a possible body in the grassy median near Old Plains Road in the Fair Oaks area.

The Fairfax County Police Department is currently searching for the driver who struck a pedestrian — identified as Steven Davis, 41, of no fixed address — in Annandale on Monday (Nov. 10).

At least 70 people were evacuated from a Fair Oaks movie theater on Sunday (Nov. 2) after a mass shooting threat was reported to law enforcement.

The threat, which was later determined to be non-credible, was received by staff at the Regal Cinemas in Fairfax Towne Center (4110 West Ox Road, Suite 12110) around 8 p.m., according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Plans to raze an aging office building and replace it with 400 residential units in the Fairfax Ridge Road area of Fairfax Center won unanimous support from the Fairfax County Planning Commission last Thursday (Oct. 16).

A Chantilly man accused of carrying out three sex crimes nearly 30 years ago is headed to prison.

Edward Eugene Pottmyer, 59, was sentenced to 10 years of active incarceration today (Friday), having previously pleaded guilty to one count of aggravated sexual battery and one count of abduction.

Fairfax County police officers responded at 4:43 p.m. on Friday (Aug. 29) to what was initially described as a report of a woman brandishing a weapon in the 4200 block of Summit Corner Drive, according to the police scanner.

A mental health care provider is charting new territory in Virginia.

Serenity Mental Health Centers will open a clinic in the Fair Oaks area next week, its first in the state. A temporary clinic will launch at 12150 Monument Drive, Suite 375, on Monday (Aug. 4), with a permanent location following later in Suite 815, also in the One Monument Place office building.

A man has been arrested for a home burglary in the Fair Oaks area that appears to be connected to an armed robbery at a Tysons parking garage.

Police officers were first dispatched to the office building at 8605 Westwood Center Drive around 9:07 a.m. on Wednesday (July 23) for a reported robbery, according to scanner traffic.
