Fairfax County’s plan to transform a shuttered hotel in the Fair Oaks area into an emergency family shelter has cleared a major hurdle, but the county’s planning commission will have the final say later this month.

The Board of Supervisors voted 9-1 on Tuesday (Jan. 14) to allow the former Extended Stay America at 3997 Fair Ridge Drive to be repurposed as a public facility. Springfield District Supervisor Pat Herrity was the lone dissenting vote.

The tech giant will have its last day of business at the shopping mall (11750 Fair Oaks Mall) this Thursday (Nov. 7), an employee confirmed to FFXnow. The closure will precede a relocation to the nearby, outdoor shopping center Fairfax Corner, where the store will open Saturday (Nov. 9).

An Oakton man has died after he was hit by a driver while riding an electric bicycle in the Fair Oaks area yesterday (Wednesday), the Fairfax County Police Department said in a news release today.

Officers responded to the intersection of West Ox Road and Tilton Valley Drive at 12:14 p.m. for a crash involving a bicyclist who was struck by a gray Kia sedan, according to police scanner traffic.

A 77-year-old Fair Oaks man has been arrested and charged with murder after allegedly stabbing and killing his wife at their home in the Highland Oaks neighborhood.

Officers were called to the 3900 block of Highland Oaks Drive in Fair Oaks for a report of a stabbing at 6:18 p.m. on Monday (July 29), according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

Fairfax County staff are in talks with multiple developers about converting two office buildings in the Fair Oaks Business Park, including the NRA headquarters, into residential units, a county official has revealed.

When an officer went to investigate an allegedly stolen vehicle at Fair Oaks Mall this morning (Friday), one of the vehicle’s passengers commandered the officer’s cruiser and crashed it near the Fairfax County Government Center, police say.

The Fairfax County Police Department says it arrested three people in the incident, which sent two officers and the person who allegedly stole the police cruiser to the hospital.
