Fairfax County supervisors on Tuesday (Oct. 28) took steps to acquire private property needed for construction of the Richmond Highway bus rapid transit (BRT) project.

With three members absent and one seat vacant, the Board of Supervisors voted 6-0 to authorize county staff to move forward with filing paperwork in court allowing for the condemnation and acquisition of property needed for utility relocation as the nearly billion-dollar project begins to move from planning to construction.

Owners of vehicles towed for improper parking on private property across Fairfax County could soon see an increase of up to 40% in the fee to retrieve them.

The Board of Supervisors on Tuesday (Oct. 28) set a public hearing for Tuesday, Dec. 9 to consider adjustments to towing fees most recently raised four years ago.

A national security contractor has received Fairfax County’s blessing to open a new campus in Herndon.

The Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to approve the project for Peraton at its meeting on Tuesday (Oct. 28). No one spoke at a public hearing prior to the vote.

Fairfax County leaders on Tuesday (Oct. 28) added another tool to address the economic impacts of the recent federal worker layoffs under the Trump administration.

The Board of Supervisors approved $150,000 in grant funding from the Virginia Department of Workforce Development and Advancement (Virginia Works) in support of a new initiative known as Talent Up Northern Virginia.

A split Fairfax County Planning Commission voted last night (Wednesday) to recommend requiring future electrical substations to be built at least 200 feet away from residential property lines.

The commission narrowly supported a 200-foot setback as one of four options on the table. County staff had recommended 100 feet, while some commissioners proposed 150 or 300 feet.

Early voting in the race begins tomorrow (Friday), giving residents more than six weeks to cast their ballots before the special election on Dec. 9.

Efforts to expand Bunnyman Brewing‘s footprint at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton are officially on the move.

DrinkLocal LLC, which operates Bunnyman Brewing, has received approval for a lease to control a second storefront across from its existing bar, bringing another dining option to the campus.

Fairfax County’s 12 volunteer fire and rescue departments face critical challenges that may impede their long-term viability, the Board of Supervisors heard on Tuesday (Oct. 14).

“We are concerned about the future,” said Shawn Stokes, who chairs the county’s Volunteer Fire Commission and serves as vice president of administration for the Fairfax County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.

The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has approved developer Comstock’s request to build an elevated pedestrian bridge connecting two of its new office buildings in the Reston Row portion of Reston Station.

The plan to build the secure passageway somewhere between the fourth and seventh floors of the buildings will meet the needs of a Fortune 500 company planning to lease space in the buildings, a representative of the developer told supervisors at the public hearing on Tuesday (Oct. 14).
