A Reston man is facing criminal charges for his involvement in a recent fatal crash on Fairfax County Parkway.

The Fairfax County Police Department says Ayaan Usmani, 23, was drunk and speeding when he lost control of the 2019 BMW M850I he was driving near Elden Street around 2:40 a.m. on Nov. 23.

The inaugural “Near Miss/Dangerous Location” summary report from the Fairfax chapter of Northern Virginia Families for Safe Streets (NOVA FSS) found that 90% of the incidents recorded by pedestrians and cyclists since 2020 were recurring events — a higher rate than in Arlington (82%) or Alexandria (74%), the two other jurisdictions analyzed by the volunteer-run nonprofit.

A driver who was hospitalized after crashing at the Baron Cameron Avenue and Fairfax County Parkway intersection in Reston on Monday (July 29) has died, police say.

Marjorie Fox, a 77-year-old woman from Reston, died at a hospital from life-threatening injuries she sustained in the single-vehicle crash, which occurred around 9:40 a.m., the Fairfax County Police Department announced last night (Tuesday) in a press release.

Construction on an overhaul of the Fairfax County Parkway and Popes Head Road interchange is slated to begin by the end of this year.

The Virginia Department of Transportation awarded a $49 million construction contract for the project in Fairfax Station last week to the Roanoke-based company Branch Civil, which is expected to begin on-site activities in December.
