Updated at 8 p.m. on 2/7/2024 — A third person — Yan Zhou, 68, of Burke — has died as a result of Sunday’s crash at the Braddock Road and Bradfield Drive intersection in Burke, police said. There have now been five deaths from vehicle crashes in Fairfax County this year.

Updated at 4:55 p.m. on 2/6/2024 — One of the two people hospitalized with serious injuries from Sunday’s crash on Braddock Road has died, bringing Fairfax County’s traffic death toll for the year up to four people, police announced today (Tuesday).

(Updated at 3:05 p.m.) An 85-year-old man who crashed head-on into a sedan on Clifton Road last month has died.

The crash may have been the result of a medical emergency suffered by 85-year-old Manassas resident Charles McCallister, who was driving north on Clifton Road during the afternoon rush hour on Jan. 24 when he veered over the center line and collided with a 2017 Honda Civic, the Fairfax County Police Department says.

Fairfax County wants to consolidate the duties of its Department of Animal Sheltering (DAS) and Animal Protection Police (APP).

Under the new arrangement, DAS would oversee both animal care services and enforcement of animal protection laws, which would be carried out by animal control officers (ACO), according to the recommendation from DAS and the Fairfax County Police Department.

A woman hit by a vehicle in Springfield in late December has now died.

Fu-Tzu Wong, 63, was using a crosswalk to cross Huntsman Blvd at Bridle Wood Drive in the evening of Dec. 27 when “an unidentified vehicle” struck her, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

(Updated at 7:50 p.m.) A teenage pedestrian was injured in a vehicle crash in Pimmit Hills this evening, police say.

The crash occurred around 6:50 p.m. at the intersection of Pimmit Drive and Storm Drive, which was closed while Crash Reconstruction Unit detectives investigated, the Fairfax County Police Department said at 7:20 p.m.

A man allegedly responsible for a series of thefts and larcenies in Bailey’s Crossroads was arrested this morning (Wednesday) after trying to flee from police on a bicycle.

Fairfax County police officers responded to the 5200 block of Leesburg Pike around 7:40 a.m. after a woman reported to 911 that a man on a bicycle had “attempted to snatch her purse twice” about 10 minutes earlier near the Crossroads Place shopping center, according to scanner traffic on Open MHz.

Police recently seized over a dozen firearms and some drugs from a Maryland house in connection to an armed robbery at a hotel in Tysons.

Officers were called to the Residence Inn at 8400 Old Courthouse Road at 3:46 a.m. on Dec. 19 for the reported robbery, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The man believed to have killed 24-year-old Ana Jurado in West Falls Church over three decades ago had started an entirely new family by the time he got arrested, Fairfax County police say.

Jose Lazaro Cruz arrived and was taken into custody at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center last Thursday, Jan. 18 — 32 years after detectives got a warrant charging him with murdering Jurado on April 30, 1991, officials announced yesterday.

The police investigation into Fairfax County’s first homicide of 2024 has resulted in a murder charge against a 14-year-old.

The teen allegedly stabbed a 17-year-old boy in Annandale at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 13), killing him, the Fairfax County Police Department reported last night (Thursday).

A teen was hospitalized last night (Tuesday) after getting shot outside Tropical Smoothie Cafe in Lincolnia’s Pinecrest Plaza.

Police officers were called to the 6500 block of Little River Turnpike just before 8 p.m. in response to “multiple calls for a shooting,” the Fairfax County Police Department said today in a news release.
