Two residents have been displaced by a house fire that happened over the weekend in Herndon.
On Sunday (April 3) at around 12:30 a.m., fire units responded to a fire at a single-family home on the 1700 block of Whitewood Lane.

The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department determined that a two-alarm fire in Centreville earlier this month was caused by a mechanical failure in the motor of an air compressor.
Firefighters from Fairfax and Prince William counties were dispatched to the 14600 block of Lee Highway around 2:34 p.m. on March 10 for a building fire, according to a news release.

Popeyes is hoping to rekindle a different kind of warmth into a Fairfax site that was destroyed by a fire in 2018.
The fried chicken spot has filed plans with the county to bring a 2,265-square-foot location to Fair Lakes Shopping Center. If approved, the restaurant would occupy space that was home to United Bank.

Discarded Ashes Caused Herndon Fire — A house fire in the 12000 block of Sugarland Valley Drive in the Herndon area of Fairfax County was caused by improperly discarded fireplace ashes into a trash receptacle. Fairfax County fire investigators are trying to determine how four charter buses caught fire Friday evening at a lot in Lorton.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson Ashley Hildebrandt says the fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. at 8025 Mims Street.
Two days before Thanksgiving, the 29 Diner was decimated by a fire. The next day, owner John K. Wood got back to work.
